Warhippy
If Kessel doesn't get at least 1 game more than that than this "league justice and consistency" is a joke. As well Kassian is a first time offender, we've seen players leave their feet to throw elbows only get 2 games.
Blackberries
SO if Gagner develops concussion/ post concussion issues and misses all or most of the season are you still going to be whining about this suspension?

ShakyWalton
Im so sick of this league and all their BS, it just gets worse and worse, I swear if I didnt love the Canucks and hockey so much I would start watching cricket..this is really an excessive suspension for a non premeditated incident. Kessel getting off for his two handers on Scott will really ice the cake.
Cold Hard Truth
What's really bad about this is that it will neuter Kassian from playing on the line and with edge and thats probably the point from the crooked punks at Head Office. This should have been a fine at most, if the stick hits Gagner helmet the "incident" is no different than a bunch of other close calls that happen on a nightly basis. 8 games, what a joke the NHL is. MANGO
ah not that huge...only 5 games. We can't be so biased, he was pretty reckless with his stick.
Edge
Seriously! He's lucky he got off with just five games. ( and the last pre-season games ) I've seen pee wee kids have better control of their sticks! It was a reckless play which deserves some disciplinary action for sure. What if he caused serious nerve damage to the poor guys jaw ... debilitating nerve damage that could potentially be life altering? That has to be taken into account just as much as the action. Trying to justify it by saying " He didn't know anyone was going to be in that position to receive the stick in his face ... " That crap doesn't fly! The point is to be aware of your stick and equipment at all times. It's no different than skating into a scrum and gliding over some poor dude laying on the ice and slicing him up with your skate. It's called common sense, use it. Yes, I can agree it was an accident, but some accidents still justify repercussions ... and this is a case that warrants repercussions. 7thMan
Let's put this in perspective: 3 players were suspended 5 or more games last season. Each was for a dangerous hit. .
elvis15
lol Cooke didn't even get a hearing for recklessly lacerating Karlsson's tendons.
Nas19
Yeah like other people have said Cooke should have been suspended for his play on Karlsson last year then. It was just as reckless as Kassian's play.
Henrik Kesler
Frack you, Brendan Shannahan. I may quit watching the NHL if Kessel doesn't get anything.
Blömqvist
So our opening night forward lines could look something like this? Sedin-Sedin-Burrows Shinkaruk-Kesler-Higgins Gaunce/Horvat-Richardson-Hansen Sestito-Santorelli-Weise - depending on whether Booth or Schroeder will be ready to return, in which case Gaunce/Horvat will be sent down. But I would expect Shinkaruk to get at least a five game trial with Kassian out.

-DLC-
ah not that huge...only 5 games. We can't be so biased, he was pretty reckless with his stick. While I agree with this, I've been saying since the dinosaur era of Bertuzzi that they really need to get away from making the decision based on the injury - gives way for all kinds of problems. Base it on the action and the intent to injure. Accidents are never as suspension worthy as some of the blatant, malicious attacks that happen. Yet, if no one is injured they hardly raise an eyebrow. Kind of messed up...
Langdon Algur
Seems a bit much for a high stick. IMO Weise should have got a big Kassian suspension then Kass. I guess the silver lining is this is really good news for Gaunce, Jensen or Shinkaruk as one of them should get some time now replacing Kassian. Could be a good chance to give Hunter his 9 games before returning him to Jr.
