Take note London and Medicine Hat...just been told Canucks' 1st Rd Picks Horvat and Shinkaruk will start the season in the NHL.

The right call IMO. They've earned their spots. And this team needs the youth that they bring. Let's see how they do and how long they stay up here. Best of luck to both!

I'm super excited, it's been a while since the Canucks have had some highly touted rookies in the lineup.

Suprised Bo is getting a look. Shinkaruk definitely earned it.

As expected...I'm guessing Horvat goes down to Junior as Schroeder will be back in a couple of weeks and Shinkaruk stays...mad that Booth is back cause now he'll be 'wasting' a spot on the 2nd line when Shinkaruk can be there, except if Booth is given a bottom 6 role.

Not sure they can last, but it's exciting to finally have some really young blood in the lineup. Who are the odd ones out then, I wonder?

It'll be an interesting couple of weeks to see what they can do. If they can get comfortable with their line-mates and build chemistry quick enough, they just MIGHT stay up with the team for the year. That's a big IF though, but it'd definitely be awesome if they did.

Don't get too excited about Bo, it's just for a look. Hunter will stay only if he makes the decision for GMMG with stellar play.

:towel: When was the last time we had TWO 18 year olds in the line up?

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

There's a good chance they will both stick longer term. This team needs an example from youthful exuberance. And most importantly, it has always been Tortorella's MO to rely heavily on youngsters (22 and under) whether prized prospects or energy depth players. They didn't bring him in to baby the youth.

I'd say never. But never has speed been so important. If they are physically ready, they should play.

I think Horvat is the one who has the best chance of staying once Kassian comes back.

I believe Linden is the only 18 year old to ever make our team.

At least, I can't think of anyone else.

Horvat has played pretty good in all zones and is getting better on faceoffs, not as flashy as Shink but just as good in a different way.

Hunter has played well, but I still worry about rushing him. Mostly because he's not as physically mature. Look at Edmonton with Hall and RNH. They've both had major injuries already in their young careers and you have to wonder if those injuries will create problems down the road. They both definitely deserve more of a look though, even if its just a few games.

Kesler was 19 when he made the canucks but then was booted back down then up again. Thats about it.

Totally agree, but we are deeper in the positions that Horvat would be playing. I think Hunter could stay if he starts scoring. Young rookies tend to get worn down by the end of the season, for that reason alone I predict NHL proven players will get the spots on this team, this year, in most cases.
