Sabres/Cody Hodgson Talk

Merci

Yep subban.. although not out of the game sure looked off his game for like 10 seconds there. It really sparked the boys.

I gotta say.. for someone that continually calls others out on being obsessed with Hodgson the common denominator in most threads with his name is you. I mean i love the guy.. i have a shrine to him.I named my penis cody. yet i'm able to step away for days and even weeks at at time without posting about him. I come back to these threads and you are always here. always posting... thats a special kind of love/hate you have going there. Please keep calling other people out though in those same threads its hilarious

Well, he's played an NHL season at this point - 84 NHL games - only has 11 goals, so my guess would be that it's time to get impatient.

Unless you look at the first season of players like Kesler, Burrows, etc, in which case the perspective doesn't hurt.

I'm not big on the idea of expecting Kassian to step onto the top line - the expectations, matchups and pressure imo aren't ideal. This isn't the Buffalo Sabres.

I think the Canucks have a couple RW who are outstanding two way players who have been very consistent and productive.

My preference would be to use them in the top 6.

Sedins Burrows/Hansen

Higgins Kesler Hansen/Burrows

Booth Schroeder Kassian

Richardson Santorelli upgrade.

I think the Sedins thrive best with Burrows' puck hounding, defensive support - as well as the cycling and ability to go to the front of the net - he's an ideal linemate for them. Alternatively I also like Hansen in that role.

Kassian and Booth played very good hockey together last year centered by Lapierre. I think Schroeder's creativity could work very well with them, and their physicality with him. Kassian and Schroeder also played their share of minutes together with the Wolves. I don't care about Booth's contract - it's not a good enough reason to try to force feed him onto the second line. He and Kesler have shown very little chemistry.

Higgins seems to work better with Kesler than most players are able to. He's crafty and he brings a drive an energy that might make Kesler more consistent.

That would be how I'd use Kassian, and I wouldn't expect top 6 production, but moderate third line production - perhaps 15/15, while developing his two way game and not being expected to add water and poof, you have top line winger.

You're wrong on both fronts of course. Kesler has been consistently played for both the minutes and the game situations of a 1C, often enough getting more ice time than even the Sedins. And Hodgson, well, give it a rest. Where you stand on the kid is abundantly clear but it still doesn't negate the fact that he is playing as a 1C.

Oh yeah, and before you insert some lame "oh Hodgson's only a 1C on a dismal team" (as though to imply he couldn't cut it as a 1C on a decent team), FYI - that actually only further demonstrates how solid the kid is becoming in the role - because the Sabres are so dismal, Hodgson is playing far less "sheltered" than the 1Cs on teams that have secondary scoring threats, (and he's still managing to produce ;)

Fiction? Sigh. Don't you ever watch Canuck games? Or did you just not bother both reading what I wrote before leaping to put both feet into your mouth? To recap -

I claimed: "Kesler has been consistently played for both the minutes and the game situations of a 1C, often enough getting more ice time than even the Sedins" - This statement is an accurate representation of the facts, whether or not we adjust the argument to only consider even strength and power-play minutes (as though 1Cs don't play the pk?).

You counter claimed: "The only part of the game where Kesler's ice time has exceeded the Sedins is shorthanded" - Which is wholly inaccurate (see a sample of game summaries copied below for your personal edification ;) ).

You counter claimed: "and Kesler has never had over 50% offensive zone starts in his career so spare us the 1C "game situation" fiction." - So what? In the first place, zone start% does not define a 1C, and secondly, well... so what? Think Crosby ain't a 1C because he only had 47.1% off-zone starts last season? Try guessing Kesler's off-zone start% last year (hint: it was the same as Crosby's ;) ).

(sidenote: A piece of trivia for the oldnews among us who think that the centerman with the greater off-zone start% has an advantage when comparing players - Kesler's off-zone start% was only 0.5 less than Hodgson's last year, and so far this season Kesler has had the greater off-zone start% by 2.00. Go figure.)

He's a kid to me, and FYI - genuinely mature 23 year olds don't tend to find insult where obviously none is intended (but bonus points to you for trying so hard to redirect attention onto something so irrelevant - and away from the facts you'd rather pretend are fiction).

lol, k, well that's another way to just dismiss the facts you'd prefer to imagine aren't facts.

I have zero love for Kesler, never have. Shame you haven't figured that out by now. But hey, nice to know you're following my posts throughout the forum ;)

Some old news for oldnews' edification

(and anyone else who truly imagines that "only part of the game where Kesler's ice time has exceeded the Sedins is shorthanded")

Here's a small sample of ice times that not only prove Kesler has in fact gotten 1C ice time and "often enough" more than even the Sedins, but that those minutes have not only come short-handed.

Thinking to be as fair in the sample selection as possible, I skipped over the 2012-2013 season (due anomonlies with the shortened schedule and Kesler coming off surgery) and picked the later part of the 20112-2012 season - when Kesler outta have been deployed even more lightly than normal given he was playing injured that stretch, and yet he somehow still saw more even-strength ice time than even the Sedins, along with comparable power-play minutes.

colour index:

Bold Red = Kesler's time exceeds Henrik/Daniel by at least approx 1 min

Red = Kesler's time is equal to (give or take roughly 30 secs)

Bold Green = Kesler's total ice time (each game, btw) exceeds both Henrik and Daniel

ps: oldnews - If you still cannot accept that the numbers prove my statements true and, by definition, your own counter claims are oops, ouch, wrong, then please do us both the honour of simply ignoring this response to gracefully bow out of the discussion. Changing the argument (yet again) and redirection tactics (yet again) are pretty much.. well... obvious, to those readers who follow the flow of reason.

That's comical that you'd put so much effort into finding a few games that are exceptions.

Your claim was pretty plain and simple - here is the sentence you emphasized yet again to try to make your weak point.

"Kesler has been consistently played for both the minutes and the game situations of a 1C".

Arguing that he is the 1C is just dense no matter how you try to slice it.

The Sedins have played less minutes than the typical top line - and Kesler less than them - and yet mikeburn translates that to mean that Kesler - obvious to everyone around here the 2C - plays consistently in 1C minutes and situations - and comes back with a page full of delusions to try to maintain such a weak point.

Likewise with your silly Crosby analogy - best of luck finding a season where Kesler played Crosby minutes - even with the likes of Malkin and Staal eating into their C minutes (the deepest team up the middle for years). But comb away for a game to try to find an exception haha. Your claim would have made more sense if you argued that Malkin is consistently used in 1C situations. Or that Kesler has managed 1C offensive production at times, with 2C situational play and minutes - or that he is 1C quality (which of course you'd never argue). Instead you've opted for a nonsense slant that attempts to argue that he has enjoyed 1C minutes and situational use/matchups.

Why don't you start yourself a thread in Canucks talk themed Kesler is a/the/consistently used like a 1C or however you choose to frame it, and see what the consensus is.

Have fun with the flaming.

Throw in a "Henrik has consistently played 2C minutes and situations" thread for extra comic relief.

Here are the results of the last 7 seasons - best of luck finding one where Kesler played more ES minutes than either of the Sedins.

Speaking of Gerbe and Hodgson............here are some fun facts.

Hodgson sucked again tonight (along with the rest of the Sabres)

zero points minus 1 . His team is now 0 6 1

Nathan Gerbe was bought out by the Sabres . Meanwhile Hodgson demanded a big fat contract. haha

Hodgson 7gms 1 goal 4 assists 5 points MINUS 4

Gerbe 6 games 3 goals 2 assists 5 points and is +/- even

And this is the guy some of the Canuck faithful think is the next best thing to slice bread? He SUCKS . He plays with the best players in Buffalo and does what? Inspires his team mates to hang themselves? They certainly dont want to win. Nathan Gerbe is way better than he is .

They should have kept Gerbe and put Hodgson on waivers.

He cant play defense either. The only hitting Hodgson does is on his team mates after the game
