[Rumour] Oilers looking for a 3rd pairing defenceman

Recommended Posts

Wanted by Edmonton Oilers: tough, mean third-pairing defenceman, possibly Deryk Engelland:

The Edmonton Oilers are looking for a third pairing defenceman with some muscle and/or meanness.

They had Mark Fistric and Theo Peckham last year but didn’t like either enough to resign them, although they miss Fistric’s hitting ability.

Fistric is now with the Anaheim Ducks; Peckham now plays for the Rockford IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks’ AHL farm team.

Pittsburgh Penguins defencemaman Deryk Engelland’s name keeps coming up as a possibility in a trade, if not to Edmonton, somewhere else.

He’s certainly tough and he was born in Edmonton

perfect time for canucks and oilers to make a big trade.

canucks should tarrget hall, yakupov or any young players.

they should send vets in return and start the rebuilding mode.

example. send hamhuis .. sedins (barring NTC) for youth.

Gillis should be looking at oilers, who are motivated right now.

plus they could use more veterans with their youth core.

The Oilers need a top 4 dman that's actually capable of playing defense. So far the oilers have been a soft team that give up soft goals. Adding a tough dman is fine but it won't come close to ending their worries.

If I were the Oilers GM I'd be going hard after guys like Hamonic, Gudbranson, Tinordi, and Cowen. Flip Yakupov before he becomes a huge issue in the dressing room.

Gillis has avoided russians [for whatever reason]

but this yakupov could thrive with a certain type of coach / & team.

canucks used to get these types off players (at least quinn did) for example lumme , diduck etc.

who didn't fit in elsewhere and turned them into very solid players. .

If Yakupov can't handle being benched by Eakins he'd hate Tortorella.
