GPA Boosters for SFU

Recommended Posts

You know, I've found that whenever I ask my friends for their opinions on GPA boosting classes, they always end up as my hardest classes of the semester. So my advice for electives would be to just take something that you are genuinely interested in. Or you could always just take English and BS your way to an A.

I've actually heard that from a bunch of people and I relate that 100% to having different profs.. and I'm thinking of doing an english course cause I dont mind papers :) ty

Nah, same profs too. I guess people just have different learning styles.

For sure, just be wary of which English course you take, because the material for a lot of them is really dry. But like I said, it's a lot easier to get a good grade because it's so much easier to make it seem like you understand the material when you're writing a paper than when you're filling out a scantron. Good luck :)

There's no such thing as a GPA booster.

And what's the obsession over the GPA? It means absolutely nothing.

Not true. I wasn't able to get into my Pharmacy program due my GPA not being above 4.0 (they only pick 50 students a year, so it's ultra competitive).

As far as booster go, some of the ones I took as electives ended up requiring the most effort. The one that I liked the most was one that I was genuinely interested in; microbiology.

The one thing I suggest is looking at http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/, as a good professor can keep you interested during the lectures and help you (note: I said help) learn the material.

TL;DR: Look up profs for classes, and don't worry about bird courses, as all courses require effort.

Yes, if you're switching programs. But once you're in it, nobody cares. You're not going to be asked to present a transcript for any job.

That's stupid. So, if I have a better mark than someone in courses that are actually relevant in that field but get beat out by someone who has a slightly better GPA because he good a "GPA booster course", lets say geography, he gets into the program and not me?

It means a lot if you're trying to declare your major, stay in your program, get a minor, and/or get into co-op without having to write a letter to the office saying why you want to do co-op.

COMM 110 - Intro to Communications

The prof lets you write a paper on basically anything you want. I wrote on the role of Christian music in Christian culture and got a perfect mark on my paper.

I'm majoring in Communications right now and yes it's an easy class. And btw its CMNS 110.

Take CMNS 110 with Gary McCarron, best class you'll ever have. Also, PHYS 190 with Howard Trottier. It's all about astronomy, no physics involved.

You must be joking, right? It means EVERYTHING to a pre-med or pre-dental student. It is really important for undergrads who want to go to law school. It is important for undergrads that want to get a masters degree/phD. Unless you are an Art student that has no plans of doing anymore schooling after graduation.
