Could Kesler be the odd man out?

I'm hoping he keeps it consistent, probably not scoring every single game, but not having any major slumps. The Kes haters have hidden for now but once he doesn't score for 2 games they'll be back. "Trade Kes, he's a 3C at best, etc" Only way to prevent them from coming back is if Kes scores atleast 1 every two games heh....make it happpennnn Kes, for the sanity of CDC

Kesler is finally playing where he should.

He wants to have a shoot first mentality and likes to score? Play wing then.

When you play center you have to be a play maker first and a scorer second.

Like the potential of the lineup if the Canucks get Burrows back at some point next week.

Weise will probably go on IR since he was on crutches after the Blues game and Booth seemed to look ok so he should be back fairly soon assuming the injury is not very serious. Hansen and Schroeder are already on IR.

Sedin-Sedin-Kesler

Burrows-Santorelli-Kassian

Higgins-Richardson- Archibald

Sesitio-Welsh- Weber

Yes, he did.

On the PP, he had 17 ppg out of his 40.

More than anyone in the entire league.

That means he had 23 even strength goals without the help of sedins. God forbidden that he can score in power play as our top pp unit. He must had gotten those goals slept because he played with the sedins!

Amazing logic you got there. Kesler just can win here. He's either a failure when he doesn't score, or a leecher when he does.

He also had 5 empty netters, and I failed to mentioned that 1/3 of his point total that year was on the man advantage, playing with the Sedins.

Sedins can make anyone produce. I think Kesler is much better as a winger but he needs to be on our second line to balance scoring. I am a little afraid that this recent success will inflate his ego some more and lead him to take more rushed shots but I guess we have to live with that.

If we could get a crap load for him , Id still trade em ... just telling it like I see it ..

So.... let me get this straight... The Canucks need secondary scoring with out losing toughness...

So you... want to trade...our best shut down guy, who is providing secondary scoring....for what? Cody Hodgson? A few picks? A 2nd line sniper?... A shut down guy?

Well here's food for thought...

Kesler is 9th in the league for face-offs taken and 11th for face-offs won

Kesler is 6th in the league with 7 goals

Kesler is 5th in the league for time on ice with 293:02 over 13 games and is 3rd on the Canucks behind only Bieksa and Garrison

So who/what would you be looking to acquire for Kesler, or a better question would be, Why would you be looking to trade Kesler at this point?

If Torts was sticking to the AV rule of never truly splitting the Sedins for more than the odd shift, then you'd be 100% I believe - Kesler would need to be on the 2nd line to balance the scoring (I'm sorry to guys like Santorelli who get the kudos for how they're producing, but I just don't see some of our career 3rd liners being consistent top six producers). But so long as Torts is willing to split the Sedins, then we end up with a 1a/1b rather than 1st/2nd line, and Kesler could be on either as a winger.

I liked Kesler as our shut down 3C specialist, chipping in some sporadic offense and eating up quality minutes (actually, enough minutes that you may as well called him the 2C most games or 1C many games, but that's another debate). That's the role he thrived in and that made room on the roster for the less physical/more skilled types to get some offensive space. But in a role that he's expected to provide consistent secondary scoring (2C being the label), he just wasn't consistent and ran through seemingly every winger option he was given with limited success.

Torts moving him to wing though? Very interesting. Mostly because we can finally imagine having a 1a/1b punch rather than a 1st line and sometimes a 2nd line. A couple caveats -

1) Sedins do have a rep for making just about anyone look good for a short period and Kesler's 180* turn is only 3 games long...

[ I'm suddenly getting a giggle thinking of those who were all in a knot last week claiming Kesler shouldn't be evaluated on the basis of "only" 10 games (4pts, -5), and yet who are now pumping the guy up as some sort of elite star on the basis of his last 3 games (6pts, +3)... Guess that sort of irony is lost on some minds though ;) ]

2) Sedins also have a habit of going through cold stretches of their own (don't all players?), and when they do it again, it'd suck to see Kesler bashed for their slow down just like CDC posters routinely bash the wingers who happen to be with Sedins during their cold stretches...

Point #2 may turn out to be redundant under a fresh coach who royally changes things up... What a thought! If the Sedins can skip having drought periods this season, just think about the possibilities...

Any which way, I still dislike the guy and his second goal last night was still sweet to watch again and again... Go figure.

Now has 7 goals, 3 assists in 13 games, 7 points in the last 4 games. All the Kesler detractors have mysteriously disappeared.

People that were not happy with kess didn't like him at center, where is he playing now? With kess playing up we officially have no second line.

Edit: he has become a passing machine on the twins line... Why will he not pass to anyone but the twins????? Get it together kess.
