Silfverberg Snipes
Motivation. Getting players to buy into his system is something he seems to be good at. The Rangers were a strong team with the foundation he built and a loosey goose AV system has given them all sorts of problems. That being said AV is way more likeable and Tort's is the type of coach that will be tuned out by players in due time. However, for the time being he has worked magic with a one line roster. Let's see if GMMG can get him a decent team to work with come this time next year.
twice_removed
Liked AV and used to hate Torts. Especially the brief fail with being a talking head. Have to admit to being way off on this one though. Above .500 with this squad and showing up to play in a game they had reason to tank... Pretty impressive. He's getting the key players on his side, setting examples with the 2nd tier players who don't show up, and rewarding the fringe players who play well with more ice time and a bigger role. Scary to say it but Tort's is refreshing, logical, and effective...

drdeath
When he defends the tie, we get the tie. Another example.
Raph
I like how he's willing to stack the lines. Kesler can't get anything done playing centre with grinders, but he can make things happen when playing RW with Sedin.
AllEyezOnMe
Producing hockey worth watching. I was so beyond sick of trying to win 1-0 every game. The team now is way more aggressive. Using the Sedins. I told you the world wouldn't end if you split the Sedins or used them on a PK. AV's stubborness with playing the Sedins in the same situation over and over and his phobic dread of trying any experimentation with them was ridiculous. Atleast now SEDINS have massive experience on the pp
samurai
No need to bash AV. AV's record speaks for itself. He oversaw the most successful period in this organizations history. Did we need a change - yes - what it because AV was a bad coach - no.

Slegr
I really appreciated what AV brought to this team. I think early on, especially, he helped shape its identity as an elite team. I remember him having the Canucks take an informal skate in Ottawa early in his tenure, when they were so-so, and it really seemed to help create a team bond. Torts has been a great pick-up... we're really lucky to be able to shift from one good coach to another. I was concerned when he was hired, thinking it was Keenan 2.0, like many folks. The thing that I underestimated was Torts' desire to win, and his assessment of talent, his balanced approach to the players / team, and strategic mind. When all you see of him from afar is his treatment with the media, it's enough to raise flags, but this guy is in it to win, and has just as much passion for the Cup as Luongo. afan
Tort's team is fun to watch as it works very hard to forecheck and backcheck, moving up and down as a 5-men unit, pressuring the puck at all times all over the ice. It's very important for Tort to preach the shoot-first mentality for the Canucks to be successful especially when the Sedin have the tendency to overpass the puck. Elite teams like the Blackhawks, Penguins, Red Wings always put lots of pucks on net. Tort is a very diligent coach who is always busy analysing the game playing before him trying to the appropriate move to help his team. I always say AV is an AHL coach who specializes in chewing gum. AV is no different from anyone one of the fans watching the game on the stands. Or I should say an average fan usually shows more emotions than the indifferent AV. AV is an afraid -to-lose coach whose only play to protect a Canuck's lead is to dump in the puck at center ice for a quick change which was sick to watch and had been costly. I feel sorry for the Rangers.

King Heffy
I always say AV is an AHL coach who specializes in chewing gum. AV is no different from anyone one of the fans watching the game on the stands. Except most of those fans have the sense to keep Rome off the PP and Ebbett in the press box where he belongs. Sather needs to cut his losses and fire the idiot unless he's trying to tank for #1 overall.
PSU
Doesn't say "obviously" 25x per interview (that frigging annoyed the crap out of me) Looks like he is saying things and doing stuff behind the bench Uses the media to commend or shame players that deserve it Benched a healthy Booth Icing a team that forechecks, does it well, and looks like they are trying even in games lost With a one goal lead in the third we are still playing hockey instead of frustratingly trying to defend the one goal lead just long enough for the game to end
Burnsey
I will say that AV was a good coach. It got to a point where something/someone new had to come in though. I was too happy about Torts hiring. I thought that would be trouble to be honest but I am really happy I have been proved wrong thus far: Timeouts Willingness to split the Sedins (he's done it more this season than I think AV did all 6-7 years) Media - no generic answers, when he doesn't like how the team played he says it Player management - so far he hasn't shown that he favours one player more than another. Top line is obviously going to get the top minutes but he plays the guys that play well in that particular game. Still early so I'm sure more will come up by season's end
canuckleface77
I was never an AV basher but I'd lost faith in him at the beginning of last year. Torts has really made me question how guys like Ballard and even May-Ray would have done in Torts system. It's early, so let's not all plan the parade but as a 35 year Nux fan it's nice to see a team work so hard for a coach. This has been missing the last few years. Hairy Kneel
AV had one philosophy ride the twins all the way he got stuck in his ways and took his position for granted..there's no room for favorites like rome raymond etc with Torts you gotta earn your ice time (booth)
Off_The_Schneid!
They hired torts at the perfect time. He was an Eastern conference coach and with this new division format we play a lot more eastern conference teams. He's spent a lot of time doing his homework and playing against these teams. Without torts we wouldn't have done nearly as well on our recent eastern conference road trip
canidiot
torts seems to say more with fewer words. the biggest surprise for me is the play of Higgins. last year I had almost written him off as not having any hockey sense. now he is a completely different player. these goals he is getting are not a fluke, but overdue for how many chances he is creating. I hope he can make the same rework of booth as well. who knows what he could have done with mayray. if av was driving the team bus: the cruise control would be on the ac on max soothing music filling the air if torts was driving the bus: his foot is to the floor, hair straight back windows down and tunes pumpin
