Lychees
Ok let's be frank, pretty much every team has a player(s) that dive/embellish, some teams moreso than others. Realistically speaking, why is nothing done about this with everybody griping about "integrity of the game" and such? Why does the NHL/NHLPA let it go unpunished? Furthermore why is a penalty called when the counterpart of an embellishment/diving is called? Isn't a call supposed to be either hooking/tripping/whatever OR diving/embellishing for the most part? Just curious on some train of thoughts is all, not going after any organizations or players but is missed calls based on reputation warranted? It's clearly not been a deterrent thus far
pimpcurtly
It's one of the problems with parity. The teams are (mostly) so evenly matched that some players will do whatever it takes to get an edge. And unless the refs really start cracking down(which is difficult because it's a fast game), it ain't going to get any better, IMO. Also just because a head snapped back in embellishment doesn't mean it's not still a high stick....just an example.
DeNiro
The Sharks are the best in the league because of their powerplay. They get their powerplays by embellishing. Embellishing works and the players know it. I don't know how the Skarks are getting away with it after last years playoffs though. Surely the refs watched the tapes. Hyzer
You do whatever you need to do to get the W, simple as that. It would be interesting to institute a sort of review like suspensions, where you would look at an embellishment and fine the team/player.
King Heffy
The league loves rigging things so the Bruins can win. The Bruins dive more than the entire English Premier League. Seems simple to me.
La Mauviette75
Furthermore why is a penalty called when the counterpart of an embellishment/diving is called? Isn't a call supposed to be either hooking/tripping/whatever OR diving/embellishing for the most part? No, not really. Diving is trying to draw a penalty when nothing happened. There is no penalty warranted for the other side when your player dove. Embellishment however, as the word implies, is adding something to something that was already there. If you were tripped but act like you just got shot, then the trip is still there, but you tried to draw it so much that it's worthy of a penalty. same with getting lightly high-sticked and falling over like you got kicked in the face. Watermelons
The NHL needs to be more consistent in making calls. If they do that I believe that the diving will stop because players will understand what is a penalty and what isn't. Now, a penalty on one night would be ignored on another night. In this case, players will feel inclined to embellish because they aren't sure if the refs will make the call....might as well try to help the team get a powerplay
Angry Goose
I like that the Canucks are turning their reputation for diving around, even if slowly. Glad we have a coach who will put his foot down on those sorts of behaviors
Jägermeister
It's amazing how the teams that beat us in the playoffs are the worst divers eh?
Hairy Kneel
Flagrant dives should be called from the booth (TO) and then refs can take the penalty back before the faceoff. Taking the penalty back is the first step while choosing to call the actual dive is the next step. I would compare it to the NFL when a referee 'picks up' a flag and states "there was no foul on the play."

TheAntar
I personally think the answer is that embellishing an infraction should get the initial penalty "waived off" and only te diver should serve any time. An alternative is to make embellishment a double minor so the divers team still ends up short. It wouldn't take many enforced calls before coaches had seen enough diving and ended the 'show'... Canuck or Die
Surely you've watched the boston diving montage or seen thorntons "wrong hand shake" among others?? Yes, I have watched it. They are responses to all the hypocrisy from people who whine about us diving, yet ignore pretty much everyone else when they do it.

Seems simple to me. Lol, this made my day. In my very important opinion they need to go NBA style and fine divers embellishers(?) like NBA does floppers. Or leave it in as strategy to manipulate the game and make fools of the refs, more-so then they already are.
THERETOOL
I beleive the real reason the refs can't stand us , is the whole burrows incident ,, he called the ref out publicly ...and now no matter what ref the canucks get ,will make sure to screw with us ... I guess there is a code , and the zebras feel it was broken ...

While I do whole hearted agree with this...Yet, you are leaving it to the discretion of the ref..so discrediting the first infraction in lieu of a diving penalty only makes the ref's more liable.. And we know they are terrible. I know when I play hockey and a stick comes up to fast to my face, I flinch.. pull back. snap my head back. doesn't mean I am diving.. self preservation(heck I flinch at movies) but ... obvious dives need to be dealt with... match penalties.. infraction for infraction
