Seriously.. Is Tanev part of our Top 4 D now?

Which is why I think folks are nuts when they want to trade: Corrado/Tanev/Stanton.

Good reliable cheap defensemen are not easy to come by.

Well he certainly won't be cheap next season . Another 3.5ish mil to already one of the most expensive back ends means someone's gotta go for some help up front.

Next season will be tricky, Corrado looked good in his short time last season so I expect Corrado ready to become a #6 defensemen for us next season unless no one gets traded. Edler, Hamhuis, Stanton, Tanev, Garrison, Bieksa are our 6 defensemens and with Corrado ready to step up who will move?

It'll be interesting to see what happens, Gillis said he won't ask anybody to move with their NTC and assuming no one wants to be moved on our defense it looks like Corrado will be forced in Utica for awhile or maybe Stanton or Tanev move which is something I'm not a fan of.

Tanev is a top 4 defensemen on our team, I wonder if Stanton could step up aswell.

The numbers don't lie. 10 points in 34 games, excellent defensive play, +6, played more than 20 minutes in each of the past six games (all wins!)

Hopefully Torts would put Edler on the 3rd pairing and give him PP specialist time, so not only would he be able to improve (again, hopefully) against weaker competition, but his offensive game (and desire to be in the Top 4) can be rekindled. At this point, Eddie may not be the best option against tough forwards, and he'll have to earn his ice time.

tanev stays. if stanton can step up and take notice around the league, then he's most likely going if the value is there and the deal makes sense. right now it's still early, but he's one of the stories on the team right now as the surprise pick up. took a nice hidden gem from chicago

I hope you don't mean Stanton would be good trade bait. With another year at 550,000, he's definitely a keeper in my books. He's taken that spot as the "perfect 5th defenceman" that Tanev had. But I see what you mean if it's the only deal we get that makes sense and is a 'cant say no' offer.

Funny how among the most impressive on our roster this season, 3 are undrafted (Tanev, Stanton, Lack).

Ah, to be a young Canucks defenseman and still in the honeymoon phase with the fans.

Fast forward five years and there will be a new, shiny, up-and-coming #5 D starting to come into his own and Canucks fans will want to trade Tanev.

I remember the days when people talked about Edler the way they now talk about Tanev.

Enjoy it while it lasts Chris. It'll be over before you know it.

With that said, Tanev has certainly emerged this season as a legitimate NHL top-four D. This is the first season Tanev hasn't has sheltered usage and he's responded well to the new challenge and taken his increased role/responsibility and run with it.

With Edler out, Tanev is in the Canucks' top-four and he's thriving in this role. With Hamhuis having found his game again and playing like a Team Canada candidate, the Hamhuis-Tanev pairing has been one of the most solid and dependable D units on the 2013-2014 Canucks.

When Edler comes back, Tanev will still be an NHL top-four D but he will also still be the #5 defenseman on Vancouver's back end. He's been great this year and Torts will continue to rely on Tanev for big minutes at EV and SH, but he hasn't moved ahead of any member of this team's current big four (Hamhuis, Edler, Bieksa, and Garrison).

I don't really get the point you were trying to make in the beginning of your post there. Do you expect the Canucks to keep every player until they retire? Players get traded all the time, and yes they become expendable when something better comes along but the trick is to keep playing well and not let someone else outshine you.
