Dane Fox | LW/C

I think this kid is good, but you have to consider what Sestito did as an overager as well.

Sestito scored 42 goals in 60 games as an overager. Fox has already topped that in 40 games. And hell, Sestito has been showing he's got some hands of late. It's not realistic to expect Fox to put those numbers up in the NHL, but to be a third liner that can chip in 15 goals a year? Sure.

The truth is how the heck does anyone really know how this player will turn out? All we know is that he looks pretty awesome right now and we hope it can translate to the NHL level. Could be a 1st line sniper that we've all been waiting for, or a decent 3rd liner with grit and can score a big goal once in a while. It's really up to Dane how far he wants to go as far as being the player he wants to be. All we know is that he was a good pick up by MG and that MG out GM'd all the other GM's in the NHL to get him. :emot-parrot:

Exactly

When he was 18 he was still putting up PPG numbers, just like our first rounders

Sestito scored a lot of garbage goals because of his size and age advantage. Fox is scoring from distance, a skill that translates much better to the higher levels of hockey.

But Sestito also has size and fighting ability to fall back on at the NHL level when his scoring didn't translate. Ryan Johnson was a scorer in junior too, but knew he'd have to become a defensive specialist at the NHL level to earn a job.

It's the same for Fox, where he at least has defensive ability, but if that isn't good enough it's doubtful his offence will carry him at the NHL level.

I guess we'll see how well his game translates to professional hockey next year in Utica. It seems our undrafted signings have been more successful than our actual draft picks. I hope this one continues the trend. I, for one, am excited we have Fox in our system and hope he and Gauncer develop some insane chemistry so they can anchor our third line in the future.

Utica will get a good bump in depth next year with Gaunce, Fox, and possibly Shinkaruk

This Utica fan can't wait to see these guys here next year. I looked at the Prospects Page for the 1st time today, and, was I surprised. There is some really promising prospects in the system and I hope these guys can come through Utica. I would really like to see how these prospects blend with Grenier, Archibald, Lane, Jensen, Welsh and Peltier. Next year sounds like it's going to be even more exciting here in Utica.

Ya, you're getting a huge boost next year with Gaunce, Shinkaruk, and Fox. Begs the question as to who do they bump?

He's flat out dominating shifts at times this year. He might be playing with McDavid, but he's not feeding off him, he's creating chances for himself and for his linemates too. He's a solid two way player who works hard and is definitely a pest for the opposition. He has one of the best wrist shots in the OHL. Seen him score a couple of beauties this year. Definitely has a pro release and shot.

Had this quoute lying around in my notes on my laptop and just found it now. It's from a user over at Hfboards but I thought it gave a good idea of the player that Dane is.

I can't help but compare him to Andrew Shaw. Actually Fox's numbers throughout his junior career are better than Shaw's. If he could turn into an Andrew Shaw type player who plays on our 3rd line I would be psyched.

He's got a better shot than Shaw so I think he's got better offensive upside, but yeah, Fox becoming an Andrew Shaw type for the Canucks would be awesome.

There's not much doubt about his shot and his two-way play also seems ingrained. When he makes the shift to professional hockey, the thing to see is whether he can keep getting open in the offensive zone the way he has been this year. If and when he figures that out, he'll be scoring goals. His one-timer is lethal, and something we don't have on the big club.

I don't know much about Sestito outside of his time in van but maybe the team that drafted him didn't draft him as a scorer but as an enforcer and didn't feel his scoring touch was worth developing so he gets stuck on the 4th line? so maybe he still has it and with more ice time and confidence from getting a chance to show his stuff maybe he will tap into said potential and be a decent 3rd liner for us if not he is still a pretty good 4th liner already.
