If we got Ciccarelli 2.0 in Fox I'd be so happy.

If we got Ciccarelli 0.5 in Fox I'd be walking on sunshine.

I know right! 0.5 of Ciccarelli makes Fox a 600pt player :)

The more I watch this kid the more I think he'll be an effective pro. I always forget he's a Canuck because I only think of our drafted players but I think Fox is going to be a top 6 difference maker in the league

He's saying that Fox represents a prospect that boasts a second round draft pick's level of talent which makes up for the fact that we didn't have a second round pick last year. Make sure you understand what someone is saying before you tell them they're wrong. Don't want to look foolish ;)

I don't understand. But I'll go under the assumption you know what you're talking about. Thanks friend.

I have heard a lot about this kids attributes but I was wondering if someone could fill me in on his areas in need of improvement. Is it really only off the ice issues that prevented this kid from being drafted?

He was slated to go in the second round, shouldn't have dropped past the 4th. Even with less than desirable size, off ice issues, and playing for a bottom-feeder it is shocking he wasn't drafted.

Lots of info out there for him:

Talent Analysis

Fox was snubbed twice in the NHL Draft but has now been signed by an NHL club. Fox has solid offensive skills but needs to work on his defensive game.

He has good, but not great, speed and needs to improve on his first step and acceleration.

Earlier projections didn't fault his skating really. From 2012:

...

Less sheltered than he was in London due to Erie’s lack of depth, he’ll be called upon to mature and carry the mail for the Otters next season. That said, his chippy style of play has led him to take some dumb penalties from time-to-time and if he’s going to progress as a player, he’ll need to reign in some of that wildness.

The biggest question mark for Fox are his intangibles. He’s a good player who should get better with age and he possesses definite talent, impressing with a leading upper-body power mark at the draft combine. Central Scouting ranked him 46th among North American skaters, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the intangible question-marks (the ill-defined “off-ice” issues and his penalty tendencies) cause him to fall a bit down several draft boards.

...

Fox has an unorthodox skating style. However it works for him as he has good top end speed, and accelerates quickly. His agility and balance are also above average and he’s a shifty player out there. Fox also has good edgework, mobility, and pivots, allowing him to also be a good defensive forward.

A lot had him pegged as a sure draft pick his second time around, maybe a late 2nd/early 3rd even. I saw a comparison to Ryan O'Reilly (who also isn't the swiftest of skate) as well. High end shot and release, good defensively, could be faster but still not bad.

He'll just have to work to make sure those translate to the pro game against bigger, older players.

we just need to keep drafting and trying to sign top UFA prospects

I would only move a pick for a young top player that is already established ex ROR

I would look at moving edler for another asset, good player, desperately needs a change of scenery (like half out team)

PITB from the Vancouver Sun has an article on him with a video compilation of all his goals. It looks like he knows how to go to the dirty goal scoring areas to get the goals and he gets them on not just a signature move but a plethora of moves. He has a quick release on a lot of his shots and it looks like he can pinpoint his shots too, going high on alot of them. I am digging his style.

We also have to make sure we don't put our expectations too high. When former Cancuk Byron Ritchie played in the WHL he had 106 points in 66 games during the 1995-96 season, and then had 126 points in 63 games in the 1996-97 season. Yes goaltending back than is subpar compared to todays standard, but we should still lower our high expectations.

So, i got some "inside" info on Dane. Not gonna say who, but the knights community and chatham are pretty small.. and people talk. Basically, Dane was traded because of major character issues. Clashed with Knights management over an issue (which wasn't disclosed) and was traded almost immediately after this falling out (which is what it was described as). Basically, whatever happened, it scared off many scouts, thus him not getting drafted, he lost minutes, despite his skill, and the general consensus was that whoever took a chance on him could be rewarded for that chance... but nobody wanted to bite and waste a pick.

and here he is. Skill is undeniable, and was never in question. I've heard from more than one person that said if it weren't for his character issues in the past, he would've been a top40 pick easily.

Wow that's all you could get from your "insider".... Thank you though for reiterating what we already knew right when he was signed a couple months ago. Id like to hear something I don't already know from your "insider"

Interesting. I think this is probably the best organization for a prospect with "character issues". Despite what the media says about coach and player antics on the ice, diving and whining and tin foil theorist. This clubs top players are all phenomal human beings with character. Sedins are a prime example of this, even Kesler who many believe is a diva and has character issues puts it aside for the team. Our minor league affiliate even has great character leaders. I remember reading how Jensen got on his teammates during the World Juniors when they were fake interviewing each other in the media room after a lose. With gaunce coming in next year too, I would be shocked if there are any character issues with him going forward. Oh and Corrado is he doesn't make the club next year.

isn't it funny how the media works

-2011 SCF

- canucks "cheaters, divers, whiners etc"

-their captain and his brother have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to charity, are major donors to BC children's hospital and have never had a black mark on their careers or personal lives

-bieksa later spear heads the mind check charity against depression

-bruins - the heroes who prevailed over the cheaters

-tyler seguin and marchand - alcoholics

-seguin traded because of his party boy attitude

-marchand suspended several times since

-Lucic - I love him and not sure any of it was his fault, but you do not see canuck players going out and getting into trouble like that

-don't get me wrong, no one is perfect and we aren't the good guys and them the bad guys, but thats what media loves, good vs bad, light vs dark when really most of us are just a little grey

the media also singlehandedly drove down Luongo's value

-its all perspective and we create our own realities - I find it very sad our players have such a bad rep when many do so much for the community

Good posting man. I agree with pretty much everything you say.
