Just read this article, seems Pavel doesn't see Canada being a threat in the upcoming Olympics. In fact he doesent even see Canada competing for any medal let alone gold.

Maybe its my homerism but to not consider Canada as a medal contender in hockey seem kinda bizarre.

Of course he's gonna favour Russia.

Granted, not considering us a contender is a bit ridiculous, but Russia is super pumped up about the Olympics this year and he's probably just trying to pump up Russian hockey fans more.

I can't see anyone but Russia winning gold.

As kids they don't dream of a cup, they dream of Olympic gold. They'll be motivated to win it at home.

Reasonable argument for no medal. Russia and Sweden are locks to compete for a medal. The fins and the USA are there to take us out somehow.

Interdasting.

No, I don't see it happening but it's a possibility nonetheless

Yes I agree, he doesn't have the Swedes as a medal favorite either, I would say Canada/Russia/Sweden would be the Medal Faves, Sweden, while there not as strong as Canada or Russia offensively have a really solid D core, and arguably one of the best goalies going into the games. I would like to see a Canada Russia final, but I would not be surprised if any of Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland or the USA takes gold. Although Canada is of course stacked, each of the aforementioned teams has some very strong assets.

The Swiss will find a way to be a pain in the ass too.

Russia has a pretty lousy D compared to Canada and Sweden, aside from Voynov, most of there D are either well beyond there prime, or simply not as talented as Canada and Sweden, although you can never count out the Russians, especially on home ice.

I wonder if Bure didn't look at Russia's defence and goaltending, then looked at our defence and goaltending. We have the advantage in those positions by a mile.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Doesn't matter what the outcome for Team Canada comes to, in Sochi.

They will always be the favourites in each international hockey tournament (even if we never win another medal in 50 years). When other teams can ice 2 or 3 competitive teams, then he can say Canada isn't a threat.

And forward group. Our forwards can play defense.

Ovechkin, Malkin, Datsyuk, Semin, Kovalchuk, Radulov, Yakupov, Kuznetsov, Grigorenko? And some KHL players.. Compared to: Crosby, Stamkos, Giroux, Tavares, Toews, St.Louis, Duchene, Getzlaf, Perry, Bergeron, Thornton, Nash. Which one would you want? It is so easy to choose.

i'll be surprised if sweden doesn't win gold, and likewise if russia gets better than bronze. they always manage to ice a group of players instead of a team.

The Russians thought they were going to win gold in '10 as well. We all know how that turned out. That team was more stacked than this one is.

Russia's speed is the reason why Canada needs to leave guys like Seabrook at home.

OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

Down by the River - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

I was curious about how many times we have not medaled since hockey was included in 1920. Canada has had 8 times we did not medal, so it can happen. I am only posting this for interest sake not arguments sake!! :-)

The big rink will make a difference. And this is what Europeans live for, they don't want a cup. They want Gold, Silver or Bronze.
