IMO, Rick Dipietro, 15 years $67.5m. 4.5mill a year untill 2020-2021. Contract was boughtout, so now its a $1.5mill a year untill 2028-2029. No caphit now, but still money.

Easily, easily Bobby Holik. The Rangers signed him to $45M over 5 years. The season before signing with the Rangers, 54 points in 81 games. His career high was 65 points 3 years earlier.

Easily Alexei Yashin. 10 years, $87.5M but then bought out. On top of that, Milbury traded Chara, Muckalt and the 2nd overall draft pick (Spezza) to acquire Yashin in the first place. Great investment!

He's still on the Islanders books for one more year and he hasn't played for them since 2006-07. That's 8 seasons of getting paid not to play, at a $2.2M cap hit.

McCoy: We were speculating. Is God really out there?
Kirk: Maybe he's not out there, Bones. Maybe he's right here. [points to his heart]

Yeah, I'm surprised that not everyone said Yashin. Easily the worst ever. And for those who said Luongo and Burrows, give your heads a shake.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

And yet Milbury, the kid-bullying shoe-beater, still has the audacity to get on TV and tell other hockey people what's what.

He's out for 6 months (which will hinder his development) and he really needs that development. There's already worries that he won't translate to the NHL and he'll end up a huge ass bust.

Uwe Krupp when he signed with Detroit $16 million for 32 games, reduced by half due to a lawsuit

Derian Hatcher's contract with Detroit, 5 years for $30 million, bought out after 27 games

Cujo's 2 year $8 million free agent contract with Detroit, he ended up being the highest paid backup in the league.

Gratton was nuts
Yashin obviously op 3 if not number one
Gomez and Drury both awful how gomez hot traded is amazing
Personally I think bobby holik at 9 mil holy wow thats like giving slightly better than higgins that much

But outside the box thinking Shea weber is an animal but what did he make last year 16 mil or 14 mil? Pretty sure that is insane

The thread should really be / could be split into two streams because those contracts signed before there was a salary cap are really inconsequential relative to those in the cap era.
The consequences of a bad contract have obviously changed dramatically.
In that sense, imo the worst contracts in NHL history are almost exclusively contracts that have damaged teams in the cap era.

The ones I find most distasteful are the buzzer beaters that the Wild signed right on the cusp of a lockout - a smaller market "have not" franchise - as the NHL was crying contract foul.

... However really bad pre-cap contracts damaged the league as a whole, as several small market teams went or almost went extinct.

And yet Milbury, the kid-bullying shoe-beater, still has the audacity to get on TV and tell other hockey people what's what.

He also has the attachments to say John Scott is a player who should be out of the league when he was the exact same kind of player in his playing time.

The ironing is delicious with Milbury.

bad contracts seem to be a New York thing.... As the islanders/rangers , Knicks, And the NY Mets seem to dish out HORRIBLE contracts on a routine basis..

Being a yankee hater, Im hoping they will join this infamous list soon
