Music of 2014

The Bookie

Recommended Posts

Thought somebody would have started a new thread for this by now but I didn't see anything, so here goes.

We'll kick 2014 off with some killer female hip hop. Technically it was released Dec 30th but whatever - the first full length album from Angel Haze. Loving this track with the 'powstep' collective from Ottawa:

there's already been 3 or 4 albums released that i'm curious to hear, but can't find them anywhere

the Springsteen album that comes out soon (leaked) is actually pretty good. a lot of it is just old material re-imagined. some works, some doesn't.

stuff I'm looking forward to:

Beck

Modest Mouse

Broken Bells

TV on the Radio

Q-tip

Johnny Cash (probably will suck)

Blink 182 (probably will also suck)

Adele

Wilco

War on Drugs

Woods

Black Lips

Orange Juice (re-issue collection)

Madlib and Freddie Gibbs

pains of being pure at heart (probably will suck. their debut is _amazing_, but the follow up was kinda trash)

Cloud Nothings

Dum dum girls

Flying Lotus

Tool (probably won't happen, probably will suck)

Gza

Liars

Kanye West

Interpol (probably will suck)

J Dilla (Donuts re-issue)

Real Estate

New Pornographers

Belle and Sebastian

Damon Albarn's "Africa Express" project

Death Cab

Wu Tang (maybe and probably will suck)

Really hoping for some new stuff from MF DOOM, Atlas Sound, Fleet Foxes, Blur,

also tried out that Q Tip and Busta Rhymes collab that was just released. it was more or less just old tracks being played with by each other. some good, most are just nowhere near the originals.

Busta isn't my kinda dude, but he said his new album in 2014 will be straight throwback 'boom bap' stuff, so maybe that could be good?

Yeah, stoked for MM, Death Cab, Dilla re-issue, Belle and Sebastian, Black Lips, War on Drugs, Damian Albarn (if it's more The Good, The Bad and the Queen and less Gorillaz), Wilco (the Whole Love was encouraging), Real Estate. A lot of the rest I'm concerned will be horrible, but here's hoping.

the singer of Wilco said the new album will be "really f'd up" or something (compared to their last series of releases)

Albarn's album is a bunch of musicians from Mali, with guests like Brian Eno and stuff.

Well then, for some more classically male hip hop, The Underachievers were signed to Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label and announced their first proper album coming in 2014, "The Cellar Door". Should be out in the next few months since they start touring it in April. Their 2013 free mixtape "Indigoism" was in my top 5 of the year.
