Vancouver Canucks @VanCanucks
#Canucks have acquired defenceman Raphael Diaz from Montreal in exchange for Dale Weise. Formal announcement to follow.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Habs and Canucks trade: Diaz for Weise. A little brawn for the Canadiens, while Van gets puck-moving D

Harrison Mooney @HarrisonMooney
Diaz is a righty, which solves a big problem for the Canucks right now.

In 128 games with Montreal, Diaz had 41 points (4-37-41) and 48 PIMs. The undrafted D-man will play for Switzerland in Sochi. #Canucks

Nice! Diaz on his game is a good puck-mover. Incredibly soft, but a much needed element on the back end.

Seriously? Why....Diaz is so small and Weise while kind of a speedbag at times was a 4th line player with upside.

Uggghhhh queue 14 pages of how this is our reset, Bold moves comments and Gillis needing to be fired.

If there isn't a bold move to make what do you expect Gillis to do? Weise was a redundant 4th liner. This might not be beneficial but it could help the pp.

Diaz is an improvement over Weber, and Weise has been arguably our least impressive forward over the past 20 games.
I'll take it.

Plus we have 9 Olympians now :towel:

Diaz is a pretty solid player. I didn't mind Weise, but he hasn't been nearly as good since coming back from his injury. He's expendable with guys like Grenier and Archibald imo. I like this trade.

Could be a precursor to a defenseman on the move?

Just wondering what Diaz brings to the table that Weber doesn't or didn't? Could this be the prelude to an Edler trade?

I like this trade at face value; Diaz is a better overall player than Weise, and we need good d-men badly what with the injuries.

Will have to see how it plays out.

Good deal. Weise was redundant on this team and seemed to be sitting in the press box more often lately.

I thought Dutch Gretzky would have been a good addition to a trade to acquire a forward.. Not sure how I feel about this one yet.

Also, I'll always be saying "Hey Diaz" because of this

At this point anything could help the PP, couldn't make it worse. Redundant or not Weise was still playing harder than most of our top six sadly.

I don't expect bold moves, never did. but this rabid fan base uses the "bold moves" comments constantly

Mike Gillis Fired after he misses the playoffs once, Alain Vigneault fired after winning two straight Presidents Trophies and then having a bad year in a lock-out year.

These might be the Canuck's Franchise's worst moves in their history only time will tell.

Not bad.

Time will tell what this trade brings, but as for now, we didn't give up much. And Weise being moved this year seemed inevitable IMO.

Diaz was brought in so Edler could be moved. ROR is free to be moved in march I believe ?

I could see Alberts being waived after this.

As for the move, solid trade for both teams. Vancouver get's what they want and need and same goes for Montreal. With Weber though, doesn't really make sense to add Diaz in that respect, very similar players.

He's listed as 5'11 197lbs, so not that small. He shoots right, which is a plus, and has averaged just under 19 minutes a game. Not a bad pick up imo. Especially for just Weise.

It's because when Gillis took the job he said he said he would make bold movies, much like Mactavish said last year, and when you fail to deliver it leaves you open to the criticism.
