14-nhl-draft-logo-980.jpg

The 2014 NHL Entry Draft will be the 52nd NHL Entry Draft. The draft will be held on June 27–28, 2014 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I'll start off by saying I really enjoyed making last years thread with all the information attached to it and I figured with our recent slump, it gives us something else to talk about for the time being.

Thanks for doing this again :) Looking forward to seeing the Canucks add some more talented youth!

On another note. Anaheim has two 1st and 2nd round picks this year, and that's kinda scary.

The Oilers are missing a 2nd, a 3rd, and a 4th.. good to see they won't be able to take advantage of those picks despite the fact they'll be high picks in all those rounds.

And with the umpteenth pick in the 2014 NHL entry draft, the Vancouver Canucks are proud to select...

Yeah that's not suspicious at all

You noticed that to eh?

In the 1st round I want Virtanen if possible.

2nd round Mattsson, Collins or Vanier

3rd round Vanier or Mantha

The rest is a crap shoot and since we don't have a 4th...not terribly worried

Warhippy's Prediction for 2015/2016

Dallas 7th in the west

Vancouver 11th.

It's harder to make a statement and stand by your words than it is to simply dismiss a statement and refuse to make a one of your own.

Just curious if anyone knows how the forfeited pick works?

Lets say NJ wins the lottery and gets 1st overall and get's skipped so does that mean nobody gets drafted 1st overall and the 2nd pick overall (although first) will forever be known as being drafted 2nd overall in the 2014 NHL draft?

Why would their pick even be used if it is forfeit? I'd imagine they just do the draft the same way, minus New Jersey. Meaning they have no way of getting 1st overall.

Actually I just looked it up and the last time a pick got forfeited the number still counted and the guy drafted after, although the 69th player taken in the draft, counted as being drafted 70th overall.

And it's in Philly, may just have to go to the draft this year.

"We've been to the Finals so many times and played so good and so hard and didn't quite get it done," said Clarke, the Flyers' senior vice president. "It pisses me off that teams try to lose continually to come up with the Crosbys . . . and Malkins" in the draft. ... "The Flyers have never intentionally tried to lose. That would put a foul taste in my mouth," Clarke said. "Who wants to be a part of any organization like that? I wouldn't want to be."

If we can get virtanen or draistl id be over the moon excited.. But then I gotta think there would be no way they play with the big club next year anyways, Gillis and company like the players to develop in the Juniors... So its highly unlikely we even see them next year IMO

Assuming we come in somewhere around 8th, and both Virtanen and Ehlers are available, I'd lean towards Ehlers although he's high-risk/high-reward.  While I've only seen highlight packages and therefore don't know as much as some people will, Ehlers has game-breaking speed and elusiveness combined with a lethal shot.  This guy has Bure upside but could bust if he can't handle the physicality of NHL play.  Virtanen would be fine, but looks like he's skating in mud by comparison and we have already have several players with his skill set (size and a decent shot) in the system now.  I'd rather try to hit a home run with Ehlers, even if he's less of a sure thing.
