[Report] Canucks Discussing Edler for Franzen Trade w/ Detroit, Interest in Gaborik/Vanek/Moulson, Calls on Kesler

LMAO !?! Hamhuis is our best all around defender he is not going anywhere.

He is just like edler when it comes to own goals. Hes better PK than Edler. But edler has much more physicality and offensive skill.

I'd rather let go of Hamhuis

That doesn't really make sense though. Hamhuis is much better in his own end than Edler, which is something we've struggled with a lot.

When you look at our other defensemen, when we're healthy, you have Hamhuis, Tanev, and Stanton who are good in their own end. Aside from that, we've got Edler, Bieksa, Garrison, Diaz (although he's not really fair to mention), Weber, and Alberts who have all struggled in their own end this season.

Remove Hamhuis, and you're left with two reliable bottom-4 defensemen and an inexperienced Frank Corrado.

Jesus. We considered "buyers" this season? That reeeeally really sucks. Not gonna enjoy the next couple of seasons that's for sure.

That's a not buyers...trading Edler we downgrade and are setting up for the future getting top end young talent. Defense weakens, Franzen would give a boost on offense so in reality, we don't become contenders but set up for the future.

when have you ever heard gillis discuss a trade before it happens....if it goes down, it goes down...

when was the last time gillis consulted with the cdc master minds?

Maybe he should start ? :picard:

But in all seriousness the players mentioned in this thread as being Canucks targets don't strike me as the type of players that would work here in Vancouver.

If the team can add a legit top six forward than one should entertain possibly discussing a player like Edler and his movement clause, but otherwise Edler has more value to Vancouver. Kesler is also vital to Vancouver moving forward, not a player to be moved.

From reading the posts I can tell a lot of people can't read, or overreact before reading everything, as well as not looking into Detroit's cap issue.

For Detroit to be able to take on Edler's cap hit they need to move a contract back.

Edler for Franzen(cap hit)+Nyquist/Tatar/Mantha+1st

Theoretically, if we took Franzen off their hands, I have to agree that them tossing in their 1st would be what we would be looking at just for that. Now, with that being said, taking Franzen would mean we would need to send another RW their way. What else could Edler and Hansen get from Detroit if Franzen and their 1st are included in the trade?

...Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler has been dangled as trade bait since the off-season, when Gillis tried to move him around the NHL Draft.

Edler, however, now has a no-trade clause and must approve any deal the team tries to make.

With a $5 million annual salary cap hit, Edler isn't a major financial burden and several teams have expressed an interest in acquiring him.

The Detroit Red Wings have been long linked to Edler, and whispers around the NHL suggest the two teams continue to discuss a deal that could also involved Wings veteran Johan Franzen.

Franzen, 34, is in year five or an 11-year, $43.5 million contract, and carries a $3.954 cap hit. While he's making $5 million in actual salary this season through the 2015-16 campaign, his salary drops to $3.5 million in 2016-17, $2 million in 2017-18 and $1 million in the last two years of his contract.

Gillis has been in the market for a top-line winger, and has been linked to the likes of New York Islanders left wing Thomas Vanek, Columbus Blue Jackets sniper Marian Gaborik and Buffalo Sabres left wing Matt Moulson, among others.

With some room under the salary cap, the Canucks' options may be limited and swapping one player with a long-term contract for another is something the team is considering.

Canucks ownership continues to state that they have full support of Gillis, though help is needed.

The Canucks have also received calls for forward Ryan Kesler, who also owns a no-trade clause, though such a bold move is considered to be very unlikely, especially during the season.

Its really hard to think about grocery shopping when there is no chef in the kitchen. There's not even a line cook. How are you going to assemble the ingredients and get them on the plate?

Wouldn't mind sending Bieksa to Pitt for one of their D-youth,+ a 1st. If Letang can't make it back this season, they might like a vet RH with grit, character, & some skill. I'd be happy to see KB3 playon a winner.

Then maybe Garrison to Col or TBay, if it would fetch a similar return(young fwd prospect, + a 1st).

Throw in a middling piece with both deals(if necc) to gain the 1st's.

As for Edler? IT puts the lotion on it's body(or gets the hose again!)...kidding. I say hang on 'til next year. Can the guy get any worse?! Pair him with Tanev(shelter from the storm), & pray efficiently...

Oh god. Franzen for edler would be awful.

Just get rid of Hamhuis instead of edler. He has more value right now. We'll get a better return.

Our defense doesn't need to get smaller. Edler is a big dman we need to keep.

You're not allowed to make anymore suggestions.
