Price gets the start in the QF

Is this some type of sick joke... I mean Price is great but in an elimination/playoff game I'd rather have the proven veteran

Nothing against Price. Just find it unfair for Luo since he has done this before and has proven more. he should be the #1 and imo outplayed Price to keep it.

You know how the story is for Canada...'starter' gets yanked, 'backup' takes over and leads the team to gold. Vancouver all over again.

Happy for Price but would be much more comfortable with Lu in net and if Price falters, Lu will be ready to snatch the crease. Either way, Go Canada Go...all about the gold! :towel:

We shouldn't underestimate the Swiss. We lost to them in '06 and they are a better team now than they were then. We have to run the table from here on out. I'm just saying this because if we don't people will question the decision to go with Price. In any case I don't have a problem with either goalie starting for us, I can't imagine it will be either of their faults if we don't win gold.

I don't give a crap what anyone thinks, I lost respect for Babcock, win or lose...Luongo simply did not get 1 once of respect from Team Canada after winning the Gold on home soil just 4 years ago. Brodeur got the respect 2 Olympics after winning in 2002. In 2010 Brodeur still got the opportunity to run with it being an older goalie, Lu only then took over.

4 years later Lu plays a flawless game against Austria and Price played well too nothing against him, and Lu just gets pushed aside.

I never really cared for Team Canada in the Olympics even in 2010 when they won, I wasn't jumping for joy, just glad Lu got Gold but nothing more. Won't change this year, GO OVI AND RUSSIA

Forgetting our Canucks bias, I find it an appalling state of double standards from Babcock. In 2010 he uses the veteran (and at that point, better) goalie, he makes some mistakes, yanks him for the younger goalie.

In 2014 he uses the younger (and at this point, not as good) goalie, he doesn't perform as well as the veteran goalie, still keeps him in the team.

Lu must be furious.

I don't think goaltending is much of a concern. Price has had significant international success as well. Plus he's really good. All this confidence in Luongo surprises me to be frank. It's not like everyone around here has even wanted him to start for the Canucks in key games in the past.

And the Swiss aren't going to generate much offence. They will have a few chances. The challenge will be staying in the game while Canada has the puck 75% of the game.

On paper it's a huge mismatch but the style these Europeans are employing on the big ice is painful to watch. Don Cherry is bang on about the olympic sized rinks. Goals are down in the prelims by 16% over Vancouver I believe. That's pretty bad considering that there are significant mismatches in the first rounds of games.

I have always wanted Luongo to be our starting goalie, even when Schneider was here. Always. And I remain hopeful that Lu will not only stay here this summer, but will see out his contract with us, as our starter into his 40s. He is that good, he could easily play on to 42 as Brodeur has done.

As for Price, while he's more consistent than Fleury, I still can't separate the two really. I will always have a huge question mark over Price's clutchness. Plenty of people have that with Lu though

Good luck Price, this is your moment to shine!

I'm a Lui fan, but all this talk about Babcock is ridiculous. He needs to win, and it's not about respect. He may be wrong in the end, but they went with the hot hand going into the games.

can blame nux for sucking in Jan. Lui wasn't able to steal gms for nux, while price was on a streak.

if Lui thinks like some of you, he shouldn't be on the team. Everyone of them is sacrificing something to be on the team, playing for free to represent Canada. Lui is a Olympic gold medalist forever, and might even be a two time gold medalist when it is done. Ask him again later and see if wants to return his medal.

I see things going down like this.

- Swiss can't handle Canada, Price wins game and gets next start.

- USA dominates Canada and we get regulated to bronze game against Sweden.

- Lu wins us the bronze and is pissed off going back into NHL games.

- Lu gets >3 shutouts in his remaining games this season and carries us into a playoff spot.

That's not Vancouver though. These are elimination games now. Brodeur had his bad game in the round robin part of the tournament so the loss didn't impact us in the same way.

If Price gets yanked at this point, we're in big trouble.

So the guy that gets the shoutout in the 1 game he plays isn't good eough.? Mike Babcock give me a brack price is good but not as good as everyone thinks. With a good team infr(ont of him he still gives out goals and luongo doesn't. Oh well I hope we make it to the gold medal game and price lets like 3 in in the first 10 mins of the game. Luongo get put in makes 30 saves for the Shoutout and Canada comes back to win 5-4

Meh.

It's a flip of the coin. Both great goalies.

Lui has the experience but he was playing poorly behind our ugly team in the weeks leading up to the Olympics.

Price on the other hand had his little slump in December but had been playing lights out in the lead up to the games.

Neither goalie did anything to "lose" the job in the preliminary round, but I just think coaches and management have believed that coming into the games that while Lui was the vet and won us gold in 2010, that it's simply just Carey's time now.

I'm more than fine with it. I'm sure Lui will be disappointed but when you sign up for these teams you check your ego at the door. Not everyone gets to play or gets to play as much as they'd like.

Besides, he seems to really be enjoying himself and soaking up the experience of simply being there.
