[Rumour] Pittsburgh Desperate for Kesler, NYR, DET AND CBJ Join Race

Recommended Posts

OK see now we are seeing eye to eye.

Think of it like this. If we can say squeeze B Schenn ++, Jenner ++ (the ++ being a winger and a 1st) than we can draft our next center. As it stands right now this team is NOT making the playoffs. 3 teams directly behind us within 2 points and having 2 or 3 games at hand. Losing Kesler means rebuild.

If we were competing and had the depth available i'd do Kesler + for Johansen. but we are not. moving Kesler signals at least a full season rebuild in 2015.

I know Johansen is a stud, no question. but so is Wennberg, So is Horvat, Rychel, Jenner, B Schenn and all bring a specific aspect we need. Pitts giving us bennet and Pouliot (as they will not move Maata with martin and Letang injured) is also good.

we have a chance at almost cannot miss prospects from the last 2 seasons and if done right we could squeeze 2 prospects from last years draft (giving us 4 overall 1st round picks int he uber deep 2013 draft) from columbus and a pick.

while they might not translate into playing this or next season. they'll help this club out immensely.

Because like it or not. Once Kesler is moved we are officially rebuilding. And this means the rest of this season. Plus next season. Then an additional season or two on top of that while our prospects/rookies find their footing.

So at that point we then have a 25-26 year old Johansen or a few 22-23 year old uber prospects. Because like it or not. If we have Shinkaruk, Horvat and say any two of Wennberg Rychel Pouliot Mantha Jenner and another 1st round pick from Kesler, we have a few almost cannot miss career NHL players as opposed to one. And I would much rather have 3 or 4 cannot miss career players over 1 single uber prospect.

That and we could again laugh at Calgary and edmonton as we rebuild in almost no time at all and are competing again quicker than most think possible

I do agree,

if we can get either

Brayden Schenn, Top Prospect (Morin or Laughton) and a 1st Round Draft Pick for Ryan Kesler

or

Boone Jenner, Top Prospect (Rychel or Wennberg) and a 1st Round Draft Pick for Ryan Kesler

Then we take it.

My concern is there is nobody in our system that has the offensive upside to take over 1st line duties from Henrik Sedin. With the exception of Brayden Schenn in all these proposals we wouldn't be getting somebody back who can as well, and even he is questionable. Hence why I was saying we go all in for Johansen. But if we are going to get an offer like the ones above "which I doubt" then I'm all for it.

Granted I'm only basing this on Pittsburgh's crappy offer and how reluctant they seem to part with the necessary pieces. Pittsburgh at the end of the day is just not a great trading partner for us. Philadelphia and Columbus make way more sense. Unless Shero all of a sudden comes to his senses and realizes he will have to part with Maata to get Kesler.

Again people please listen.

THEY CANNOT GIVE UP MAATA

Letang and Martin are injured....this would leave them with NO defense. Take Pouliot and be damned happy because he is the type of D man we do not have on our system.

We can give them a Dman. They can get another Dman else where. We shouldn't settle because they have injury problems.

Pouliot is a small overage junior who has played one game in the AHL....

If Pitt doesn't trade Maatta then we don't trade with them. If Det doesn't trade Nyquist then we don't trade with them. If NYR doesn't trade Stepan then we don't trade with them. CBJ doesn't trade Rychel and Wennberg we don't trade with them. We need a solid young roster player, preferably a forward, and to stack up on FWD prospects.

We need to be looking on getting a huge return considering the potential interest in Kesler.

If we could do that, it gives Jensen back the center he scored all his junior points with. A kesler replacement with beef to him AND another 1st this year.

And this year we would finally have the ability to actually do something we haven't in a while.

Draft high risk offensive players.

Virtanen and...Goldobin, Scherbak, Barbashev, Kapanen?

I would be sold with jenner Rychel/Murray and a 1st. Cause then we could also flip edler for more. Possibly LUongo for even more. Competing in 2 seasons

I don't see them giving up Ryan Murray. I would take Ryan Murray and Boone Jenner with no pick for Ryan Kesler.

If I'm Mike Gillis, I move Kesler by Wednesday. If what Rossi said is legit and he's not just blowing smoke, the Canucks could potentially acquire a few assets that could, along with assets acquired in moving Edler, shape the future of this franchise.

People need to realize that this is potentially the highest Ryan Kesler's value will ever be and there is no single player on this roster that will bring more return than him. Write this season off, make a couple significant trades and bring in youth, suck it up as fans for a couple seasons and let a future crop of players lead this team to the promise land because the players we have now had their chance and their window is now closed.

We realize.....I agree Gillis better get this done by Wednesday don't think we'll get as much if we wait until the draft.

You're seriously under estimating Pouliot.

I think for our situation I'd prefer a deal with Columbus.

I really like Bennett and Pouliot but Jenner and Wennberg is pretty attractive. Schenn is the only piece I see Philly possibly moving to make them a player in this game.

Tough call. It would all come down to the other things included for me.

Definitely. If this guy was in our system people would be drooling over him.

Trust me, he's gonna be a stud, and fans will whine that we didn't take him while we could.

Our forward pool is starting to look pretty decent. Horvat, Kassian, Jensen, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Cassels, Lain, Grenier and Archibald are all solid young players that will fill top 6 and bottom 6 positions. We just need that top offensive centerman and we're good.

We need to start shoring up our D though. Counting on Subban to be our elite puck moving D-man might be a bit hopeful.

I hope you guys are right and I'm wrong, if we land this kid. I seriously do.

I judge prospects on their career achievements. He is 20 playing in Portland. Maatta is 19 playing regular minutes for now for the Penguins.

Like who?

Jenner has 18 points in 50 games as a rookie, add to that he's 6'2 200lbs 20 yrs old with 143 hits. His ceiling may very well pass kesler's and has a good chance to because torts plays the crap outta players like him. We're not going to get a johansen out of them, that's a pipe dream.

Jenner, top prospect and Columbus 1st(could be top ten) would be a sick package I'd take. Give Jensen his centreman back and watch him grow.

Then we have a boosted prospect pool to trade for the high ceiling player you want.. Or Flip edler for Schenn 1st package if both parties agree.

If we could do that, it gives Jensen back the center he scored all his junior points with. A kesler replacement with beef to him AND another 1st this year.

Uhh...never said he wasn't.

Jenner was his centerman when he played junior in Canada.

Actually, Jensen played mostly with Scott Laughton 5-on-5. It was on the PP that Jenner and Jensen were on the ice together.
