Canuck Surfer
Did anyone actually expect us to keep Diaz? Deadline day sellers usually sell pending UFA's. So... Bam! To me, Anaheim is the loser of the deadline. The Penner trade made no sense and they didn't replace him. St. Louis will likely win the cup. imho. Good. They, like us, are overdue. Penner never seemed to wake up until the 2knd round. Really his butt was just big enough it did not get pushed around in the play-off's. He underperforms considerable potential because he is lazy. Some people have called him a cancer. Look how much good he did Edmonton? a useful and regular nhl player for a 5th isn't solid in my book.. how many 5ths end up playing a game in the nhl Bieksa! Weise for a 5th. Would've kept Weise... You're lucky if a fifth rounder turns out to be a decent AHL player. Weise was only re-signed this past off season cuz he signed under $900k. Read that as a figure where he could be buried in the minors and not count against our cap. Word is he wanted a bigger role and bigger money. But we were / are going to replace him with Archibald next year anyway! I'll take the 5th. Oh noes! Are you saying no playoffs? Noooooooooo. Losing is winning at this point, people. Yeah, yeah, yeah... Growing up in the Peg, we were delighted when our team made the playoff's. Its sport people. Do your best! Win one for the gipper! PS how much real difference is there between drafting 11th or 14th?
Bob Singh
wow canucks just keep going down and down. a fifth round pick? in the last 10 years Canucks have had 5 players drafted 5th round or higher that actually played for the Canucks with the only notable player being Hansen. other than him they all played 56 games combined. So idk what gillis was thinking

CowtownCanuck
So we just ditched a player that was an improvement to Weis for a 5th round pick? yay Gillis Should the fans start waving white flags for the Canucks baintrust?
KoreanHockeyFan
Sportsnet Pacific @SNETPacific 4m Kesler - "Good thing I listened to Lou. Said even if I wanted out it wasn't gonna happen." #Canucks In before CDC says Kesler is seriously demanding a trade.
Frazzy Desjardins
CDC is worse than my Facebook need feed. #realtalk
Frazzy Desjardins
Well that about confirms that he wants out. Even if I wanted out... That means he wanted to stay all along. Maybe Kesler and Luongo are just funny guys with a facetious sense of humour... Ya know.. Human beings, not hockey playing robots controlled by the medias rumours... Lol I gotta get off CDC for a bit..
Franz Liszt
Perhaps ownership isn't letting Gillis make any significant moves because they want to fire him and get a new GM in. One with a better hockey mind who will perform the re-build. Just a thought...

Og Kassian Doe
My theory: Gillis gets high whenever hegoes to make a trade ever since Aquilini told him hes gone at the end of the season.
Kumquats
So basically Weise and Diaz for a 5th? What?!
B00MER
Diaz wanted too much money and we have to re-sign tanev
coryberg
So basically Weise and Diaz for a 5th? What?! Penner and Robidas each went for a 4th round pick. A 5th is a great return by those standards.
Kumquats
Going back the past 8 seasons, our 1st round draft picks have combined for about 55 points in a Canucks uniform. Forget a 5th round pick! I'm not even going to include anything past the 1st round. Same song and dance, bad, bad, bad....BAD drafting... Bad.
JeremyCuddles
Are we going with the play bad for Ekblad strategy? Cause with our current roster we are gonna lose a lot of 2-1 games from here on out. 0-17 or whatever we have left.
Laoag
Maybe other teams management didn't offer Gillis the right pieces for Kesler. Would you of rather him go for scraps? Defensive depth? Edler Stanton Hamhuis Tanev Bieksa Garrison Corrado will be the 7th D for call ups Ride this out for the season becaus let's be honest the Canucks aren't getting in the playoffs. The Pens wasn't even offering a top prospect. Pouliot HAD to be involved in the offer for Gillis to even remotely think about trading Kesler who has two years left on a great cap hit Really.... thats not a bad D

Cause with our current roster we are gonna lose a lot of 2-1 games from here on out. 0-17 or whatever we have left. That would be ideal, but we're probably gonna be stupid and start winning games only to just miss the playoffs or get swept in the first round.
