F1 2014 Season Underway !

New season begins ! No more v8's ? Should be very interesting to see how these new motors compare to the old ? Cannot wait to see if top lap times will fall or stay safe ?

Rule change: Introduction of new power unit consisting of a 1.6-litre V6 turbo engine and two Energy Recovery Systems (ERS)
Implications: The 2.4-litre normally-aspirated V8 engines of 2013 produced around 750bhp, with an additional 80bhp available for around six seconds per lap from KERS. The 2014 V6s put out around 600bhp. However, the two ERS systems (ERS-K and ERS-H) will give drivers an additional 160bhp or so for approximately 33 seconds per lap.

Some new motors to look at :

I Have been following F1 for decades and always cheering on "Zee German's" thanks to Schumi !

Hoping Ferrrari can get their sh.. together to challenge for the title though. Maclaren did not reach the podium last year amazingly enough so they are a team to watch this year.

Incredible track where rain is nearly always a factor but looks like it will remain clear. Would love to here from any F1 fans on the current state of affairs and what is in store for the current season.

Gentlemen start your engines

Watching it now , Hamilton was on pole , out after a couple of laps , Vettel with a dicky engine out after 5 laps , Rosberg in a car that seems a lost faster than the rest out front , Riccardo and Magnussen in 2and 3rd after 21 laps.

Rosberg is light speed out there ! I remember watching his dad rip it up back in the day. Not sure how much I like the way the new engines sound but technology is ever pushing teams forward.

Macleran breaks the drought ! I am sure a few more races will be needed to work out some bugs for most teams. Looks like it will be a very entertaining and competitive season.

Man Mercedes looks strong, but their special rear diffusor is apparently only good for high downforce tracks like melbourne.

Happy for Riccardo on his home race result, and Magnussen with a stunning first race.

Drive of the day still goes to Bottas for me. P16 to 5, messes up, drops to P15 but recovers, stays strong mentally, and returns to P6.

Imagine what he can do without driving a tricycle for half a lap, and Massa not getting kamikaze'd

Gotta agree mate Bottas killed it , good to see some different faces on the podium.

That's the thing with F1, where as much as they attract the best drivers it's the technological advancements that intrigue me more than the race to race events.

It blows my mind. Best site for keeping up on anything F1 tech related http://www.f1technical.net/

This years batch of cars have made staggering leaps in performance from such a small block. How you can reliably produce between 600-760 hp from a TwinTurbo v6 1.6 liter ?

ok. let´s race!

1st round Australia mate!

New Rules:

nice improvement but my fear is after 1 season tems will get used so the unpredictability might end in 2015...

engines sound like INDY car series engines. so not big change...

please end this terribly ugly cars in 2015, you know see a "dick nose" at 300km/h isn´t that great...

Australia.

One day I gonna visit this country. seems to be a nice one :)

Mercedes:

Rosberg won. well, he deserved. but to boring when the leader goes at 20 second ahead of the 2nd...

Hamilton. well, didn´t have luck. BUT it will happen with everybody this year...

McLaren:

after a terrible 2013 at least they got very nice results right on the 1st round. the car will improve and will disturb Mercedes very, very soon...

Ferrari:

After M.Schumacher the team lost his way. Alonso is the Justin Bieber of Formula-1 but at least Alonso do something usefull...

Raikkonen should be a Canucks coach. doesn´t talk too much and when he talks he says "f#$¨# you and let me do my job!"

Williams:

beautiful car and nice performance. Botas did an impressive race, Massa was Kamikazed by KobaCrush so we can´t tell what he would do. but since Massa has more experience I bet he will do much better than Botas...

Vettel:

looks like you´re not gonna win this season eh?

Kobayashi:

future Pilot/Instructor/Examiner of the "New Imperial Air Force" and creator of the game "Koba-Crush" (similar to Candy-Crush but less wierd and you always insult him at the end). lost his brake but you know, turn to the left or turn to the right...

Next race. Malaysia!

the original turbo era had the stock engine block from a BMW 2002, which made roughly 160hp, and they wrenched it and turbo'd it to make 1000hp.
