If our back up goalie isn't good enough to start 1 of the last 15 or so games, shouldn't we "reassess" who our back up goalie is?

I can't believe we're going to wear Lack into the ground.  If our # 2 isn't good enough to play at this level, let's get another back up!

We do have a backup, his name is Lack and he's played 50 straight games.

One relief effort in an already horrible game.

That's all you have to support your statement.

Weak.

That's why I want us to be mathematically eliminated. Then we can shut Lack for the rest of the season and give Markstrom a look. We need to know how he stacks up so that, if need be, we can go out and get a capable 2nd goalie in the summer

you're entitled to  your opinion, but does it really make sense to leave the back up on the bench (for fear of shaking his confidence) while you let the starter do this:

E. Lack 21 5 16 .762 59:57

0

Call me whatever you want, but my opinion doesn't change what Tortorella is doing to our goalie situation.

A year ago and a bit ago we had Schneider, Luo and Lack (in the system)........

This year we had Luo and Lack.

After the trade deadline we had Lack, and someone we don't dare put between the pipes.

After we lose Lack, will we finally start pointing fingers?

I know Torts had nothing to do with Schneider going, but he certainly escorted Luo out the door.

I'd be frustrated as a young goal tender with no goalie coach playing for Florida...
  • 3

No. The Canucks aren't even in the same realm as these other teams. They aren't even close to being good enough to make the playoffs. They'll be off by around 10 points.

Yea :/ Losing Lu was a huge blow to this team... Lack was never the better goalie despite what CDC thought.

Well it looks like I'm in the minority once again but I say that as long as we have even a mathematical chance at a playoff spot we play Lack if only to temper him by fire, if you will, and give him a good taste of high intensity hockey to see how well he plays. If, once we are officially out, we don't see Markstrom I too will be a bit peeved. But I say wait until then. I'm thinking this blast of hard work will do Slack Eddie wonders come next season.

Kesler was lucky to score 20 this year since the injury to Morrison allowed him to do so.

I doubt Kesler would ever break 15 goals in his career again.

That's not a particularly fair statement. The seeds were planted by AV. Mike Gillis botched the whole thing by over-welcoming AV's stay, then proceeded to further botch it by letting the whole drama unfold last year unfettered. Any lesser man would've quit on the team with that kind of treatment by the coaching staff and the lack of support of management. In terms of the whole starter vs. backup situation, JT is only working with what he was dealt, which was a mostly-decomposed goalie relations situation leading up to the trade deadline.

Roberto going back to Florida was kind of an inevitable situation for as long as his wife was in Florida, Mike Gillis was in Vancouver, and no win-win solution to reconcile the two.

People who label others as bandwagoners, people who tell other people "how" to cheer for their team, "how" they should act or what they should wear to "support" their team, people who only want to hear positive thoughts and don't want to read about how the team can do better - these are people who are insecure and uncomfortable within their own skin.

I'll support my team the way I choose, thank you very much. You can choose to support your team the way you want to, and I won't judge you on it as long as you don't try to force your beliefs on me. I'll also be quick to point out where I think the team can do better, because identifying that there is a problem is the first step to fixing it; denying or ignoring a problem won't solve anything.

Go Canucks Go.

The question isn't whether or not we have a back up goalie.

It is do we have a franchise goalie? And that answer is a resounding NO. Lack has been average at best, and that is not what the team needs.

Hopefully all this game after game playing Lack doesn't get him injured. Guy did miss most of a season after hip surgery, be a shame to undo all the good surgery did in the first place.

It's been proven time and again that a team doesn't need a 'franchise goalie' to win a SC.

The season's pretty much over now, so it really doesn't matter whether they have a backup.  It's pretty clear that Markstrom is not NHL ready, so Lack will have to play the remaining games.  Huge learning curve for Eddie.

You can be sure that MG will bring in a solid goalie to share tending duties with Lack.
