[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM

The fact that we got him a month before the draft is huge.

He needs all the time he can get to meet with the scouts and formulate a plan for the draft.

This will be the first and most important step to the rebuild. It could mean the difference between selecting a franchise player, and selecting a bust. Not to mention the possibility of a Kesler trade to speed up the rebuild process.

I'm not totally sold on Trotz but using Radulov as an argument against him is pretty weak. Radulov was a whiny brat who ran off when things didn't go his way. If a player can't accept that his play is questioned he shouldn't be in the NHL.

That decision might just be taken out of Benning's hands, as TSN reported that Trotz was interviewing for the Capitals job...

Personally, I think there are a few good options. My preference is Stevens, (it was last time around as well) but I would be fine with Trotz as well. The key is not to hire the wrong guy, as we did last season.

Ah, CDC has pretty much done all of his work for him. Should be a piece of cake. :)

Just puked a little from taking a piece from Boston.

that being said... he's a canuck now and he had my full support. As long as he does his job well.

If you're angry at this, you need to work on yourself.

Conversely, what you feel right now, "he's a Canuck now", is how you'd feel after a Lucic to Canucks trade.

Puke a little in your mouth, then accept.

If we got Ratchand the puking would be non-stop.

It's a good day to be a Canucks fan folks. A new era will begin with Benning, Linden and potentially Trotz. Those 3 have the entire leagues respect and ontop of their expertise, we start off with a fresh, new, brilliant reputation.

... except that that reputation is reliant on Kesler's NTC, Edler's NTC, the Sedins' NTC, Hansen's NTC, Higgins' NTC, Burrrows' NTC...

What's going on with Doug Houda? One of my Bruins fan friends said in FB "First Benning, now Houda. We're going to have to call them the Vancouver Bruins now?"

I did a quick Google search that produced no helpful results, then scanned CDC to no avail.

Anyone know what he meant?

Jim Benning never speared other players in the crotch, skated right through a goalie, or utter death threats during the handshake line. JB joining the Canucks is nothing like Lucic joining the Canucks.

He's one of the potential coaches we may sign. Nothing more than that right now.

This. Lucic should never be allowed to tarnish the Canucks jersey. Let that filth play in Boston where he fits in.

So if we could trade Kesler for Pouliot and a 1st you wouldnt do it? Future #1-2 PMD... I totally disagree.

Pouliot is Duncan Keith minus the dirtbag factor. i watched him manhandle the Royals here in victoria. would love to see him in vancouver. hard to see pens trading him though, as its their defence that needs help.

Call me crazy (many do), but I'd love to see Travis Green considered at least for the head coach job.

No, he's not an "NHL" coach before, but I was pretty impressed with how he turned Utica around after a really bad start and how hard they pushed on a fairly thin talent pool down there last year!

I agree that Green could one day be the coach of this team. I just don't think that time is now. I loved what he did in Portland with the Winterhawks and what he did in his first season in Utica. I think he has what it takes to be a great NHL coach but he needs more time with the Comets for his coaching career and our organization needs him there with all the changes taking place.

Don't think of him as an ex-Bruin. Think of him of an Ex-Canuck player that's worked for a couple of other franchises. :)

As long as hiring Benning isn't followed by signing a washed up Chara and having him steal the C away from Henrick (we already traded away Luongo). (Keenan -> Messier era was a very bad time as a Canucks fan)

I'm looking forward to a new era and a new coach soon.

But...that's my argument.

Pouliot would be THE piece coming back that cements the deal. The potential Norris candidate D man we have never had

I have a hard time seeing Pits trading Pouliot: (1) they need help on defence, and (2) would a new GM really come in and trade away a potential Norris D-man for Kesler?

I'd love to have Pouliot but unfortunately don't see it happening.

:picard: stop trolling dude. Most players waive, it's not a big deal. You guys think NTC's are handcuffs or something, give me a break.
