nux4lyfe
Vaisakhi[1] (Punjabi: ਵਿਸਾਖੀ) visākhī), also known as Baisakhi, Vaishakhi, or Vasakhi) is a festival celebrated across the northern Indian subcontinent, especially in the Punjab region by the Sikh community. More recently, this festival is also celebrated around the world by Sikh diaspora. For the Sikh community this festival commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa. It is also celebrated by Hindus and Buddhists for different reasons including the start of a new year. People in the Punjab Region regard Vaisakhi as a harvest festival. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaisakhi So, did anyone get out to the Nagar Kirtan parades? drummer4now
Blasphemy! I see the meat samosas all the time at Thrifty Foods and overpriced pakoras resembling balls of sh*t. I don't think I have ever had a meat samosa or even seen one at a Punjabi social gathering... My goal is to definitely attend a Vaisakhi parade one of these days... CanuckofSteel
Question, potato or meat samosas? Meat Samosa? WTF?! Who in the hell eats a meat samosa? We always eat somosay with aloos in them at my house. I also love eating jalebi and gulab jaman, and I like ladoo and barfi from time to time. Randomly started talking about food there, but back to the topic. I haven't really gone to the Vancouver or Surrey Nagar Kirtan for a couple of years, but I do go to the one in Abbotsford since I live here. The only people who would prefer regular samosas over chicken samosas are vegetarians and people who bought them from places like thrifty foods. Personally I am a pakora type of guy, especially with sour cream on the side damn.. Growing up I in VAN i had many excellent Indian and Middle Eastern friends. Samosa's were plentifull. I have had all types. For those that do not really know ..... A samosa /səˈmoʊsə/ or samoosa is a fried or baked pastry with savory filling, such as spiced potatoes, onions, peas, lentils and sometimes ground lamb, ground beef or ground chicken, they may or may not contain Pine nuts. The samosa originated in the Middle East (where it is known as sambosa[1]) prior to the 10th century.[2] They were introduced to South Asia (India, Pakistan) during the Muslim Delhi Sultanate when cooks from Middle East and Central Asia migrated to work in the kitchens of the Sultan and the nobility. Its size and consistency may vary, but typically it is distinctly triangular or tetrahedral in shape. Indian samosas are usually vegetarian, and often accompanied by a Mint sauce or chutney.[3] With its origins in Uttar Pradesh,[4] they are a popular entree appetizer or snack in the South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia and Southwest Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, the Mediterranean, the Horn of Africa, North Africa and South Africa.
