[Proposal] Spezza to Vancouver

Recommended Posts

Edler, Hansen, Van 2nd, Schroeder rights for Spezza, Wiercioch

reports that Sens haven't made any steps to keep Spezza past next season. Spezza himself has said he'll think about staying or not. Offer them Edler to give them a top pair dman along side Karlsson. Edler will waive to play with him. Canucks finally get a 2nd line. Kesler the shooter, Spezza the passer, Kassian the hybrid who has the ability to do both. Linden wants to roll 4 lines and this is a strong forward lineup when healthy. Wiercioch is also a Burnaby native, hometown boy, and is a big body at 6'5" with a good all around game. Turris becomes cemented as top line centre in Ottawa, Zibanejad becomes second line centre, and the youth movement begins in the nations capital. Nucks remain competitive and get youth in the lineup.

Sign Brian Elliott 2 years, $2.5 mill per. Scott Hannan 1 year, $900K or so. Tanev $3 mill for 3-5 years.

ROSTER

1A: Daniel - Henrik - Burrows

2A: Kesler - Spezza - Kassian

1B: Higgins - Santorelli - Jensen

2B: Matthias - Richardson - Sestito

extra: Dalpe

1st pair: Hamhuis - Bieksa

2nd pair: Garrison - Tanev

3rd pair: Wiercioch - Stanton

extras: Weber - Hannan

#1A: Elliott

#1B: Lack

You can't re-sign a player until after July 1st going into his contract year. So I am not sure what people are expecting the Sens to have done at this point.

Not bad but it doesn't get us any younger at forward. We really need to open spots for some our prospects.

This is more of a win now move but Spezza isn't nearly enough to get us over the hump.

I think Shinkaruk, Horvat will be better off one year in Abbotsford. Can also be called up. Matthias, Jensen, Kassian, Tanev, Wiercioch, Stanton is a considerable amount of youth imo. Think Linden wants a mix and this is somewhere around that ballpark. Year after you'll see more with Horvat as a regular possibly.

I was under the impression that prospects still in junior were not eligible to play for the AHL until they reached the age of twenty. This would mean that Horvat, Gaunce, Shink, etc will be with their junior clubs for the next TWO seasons unless they make it onto the big club sooner. Correct me if I am wrong though, but this always used to be the rule

I think the rule is that you either reach the age of 20 or spend four seasons in the AHL.

Shinkaruk, Gaunce and Fox can all go to the AHL while Horvat has to be in the OHL (or NHL) for another season.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

I like this Deal... also the idea of keeping Horvat and the rest of the prospects down for another year. Like watermelons said Gaunce , Fox and Shinkaruk will be in the Ahl next year and we will have some youth already on the team I.E Jensen , Tanev , Mathias , Kassian. If needed or because they perform well enough we can bring up some from the AHL

I love the idea. Too bad MG stupid didn't any such move like this in the last 3 years and completely wasted all of our time. I think getting Wiercock back might be too good for us though.

A move like this is exactly what this team needs to be competitive.

I like Jason Spezza. He's amazing when healthy but in/out of the line-up too often.

Yep, definitely no question he's a phenominal player but injuries aren't that big of a concern. He has been in and out but he's not consistently injured like some player. He's a career PPG player with 687 points in 686 games and still is maintaining that pace every season so it's not like his best years are behind him. He can surely still produce and with better linemates in Vancouver, 70+ points for him playing healthy would be done without breaking a sweat. That'd essentially be a given, and it would finally get Kes going.

Ottawa will not trade Spezza. They lost Alfie and then a year later they trade the other face of the franchise? Not gonna happen. There will be riots in Ottawa if they trade him.

I think there's a big chance they do or else there's a fair chance he may walk and they get nothing. Turris took over as top line centre and Spezza got demoted 2nd line. And I'm pretty sure they already have a face for their franchise in Karlsson don't you think? :)

Spezza is an elite #1 center.

Try Horvat, Edler, 6th overall.

That's pushing it don't you think lol. I don't think any team would give that big of a package for him at this point in his career with due respect. Yea he is a great player but I think a hockey deal is more sensible than one of those types of deals at this point.
