Merci
You could say the same thing about Burke and Nonis draft picks as well as every GM's picks. Unless the pick is a Crosby, Toews, Malkin, Ovie, Stamkos, Kane, everything else is a crapshoot. Bieksa, Edler, Kesler, Burrows, and Schneider arn't any where close to thosep layers yet are miles above anything Gillis ever drafted.
mpt
You guys realize that the GMs make recommendations on what the scouts report right? We've had the same scouting staff for an insanely long time. That's the reason the team continues to draft poorly no matter who is the GM.

one night
For like a year. He's the sole reason why we plummetted down the standings over the last couple years. Piss poor trades and drafting will do that. I guess the coach had nothing to do with it. Whom are you going to blame if we make the playoff with the same team from 2013? Jiggs50
Lol at the Gillis hate. Guy made got the value of this club to skyrocket. Took us to the finals. Signed most our guys before the finals to bargain deals. His last 2-3 years were terrible but he did draft a ton better.

Maybe you should put a resume in for a GM job, nobody else has a clue including 29 other GM' s in the league who gave him GM of the year. His biggest fault was not hiring a GM and staying as president, the job in Vancouver is almost overwhelming for 1 person.
Ghostsof1915
If anyone is to blame for that trade, it's the pro scout that failed to notice just how severely injured Ballard was before he came here. Considering Ballard went downhill after leaving Phoenix, spiked upwards 1 season into Florida and resumed getting worse. That's a pretty bad trade. I could have told him to trade Bernier for Keaton Ellerby, we could have had the same results, and not had to use a buyout on him. Then we would still have had our 1st rounder and Grabner to trade with. Whomever was that pro scout I really hope he was dismissed.
tas
No one MG ever drafted is old enough to be where these guys made an impact at the NHL. Burrows was undrafted. kesler played for the canucks the year after he was drafted. edler, hansen, raymond and grabner all played for the canucks 3 years after being drafted. where are gillis's players from 2008-10? we have jordan schroeder, who probably won't be offered another contract. elvis15
... Edit: wrap your head around this one, Bernier, Grabner, and a 1st for Keith Ballard who was a buyout, no excuses this guy should not be employed again until he takes a job as a scout for 5 years. Wrap your head around this one Merci: Bernier was a buyout after us, Grabner was a waiver wire pickup after us, and the 1st hasn't amounted to much so far apart from 34 NHL games. That's as comparable to Schroeder (drafted the year prior) and Jensen (drafted the year after). According to you: "Literally not one playrr an nhl regular besides hodgson" so Howden must fall into the same disappointing category. ...Nonis also drafted White who landed us Erhoff. ... Did you really just try and give Nonis indirect credit for getting Ehrhoff? You know who else passed on those guys, 15-20 other some odd teams. Yet it's only our GM's are stupid. ... No, just like your comment . You said it, but I'm not sure you understood it. Show me someone who is mistake free and I will show you someone who has never tried a damn thing challenging in their life .. you who are afraid to fail will NEVER achieve bugger all .. only the brave accept failure and learn from it, for failure is inevitable if you are strong enough to 'dare'. .. I hope Gillis gets a GM job and win's a Cup .. just to shut up the haters .. well not shut em up .. more like channel them and their collective 'spite' somewhere else. In a similar way to how AV is doing well with the Rangers. Some people want to only pick out the bad but aren't willing to recognize anything good. Too bad they're the most vocal. But on topic, Gillis would be a fine GM in Washington, Regier to a point as well. Feaster would be a terrible pick as GM again though, and I'm not sure Gretzky would sign on, but maybe. TOMapleLaughs
Gillis is interesting, in that he'd be going into pretty much the same situation he left behind. Although the core is a bit younger I guess.

Or perhaps the Blues? I hope the best for Gillis, but who cares what he does for another team? To shut up the haters? Please... It's Canucks or death. Brocklovich
Washington might find themselves in a tough boat if MG had a tough time making deals while he was a Canuck GM. Perhaps the Canucks new GM could talk shop with MG about offloading a player or 2 for some prospects / players in Washington
ForsbergTheGreat
I dont understand the gillis hate here... I, for one, think he did a great job here.... He did do a great job. He will do well where ever he goes. He's the greatest, most successful GM this franchise has had.

VanCityCanuck14
LOL Gillis? Worse GM of all time. Those saying he drafted Horvat, what a gem. We gave up Schneider for it... Then the idiot kept and traded a disgruntled second elite goalie for a 3rd liner and AHL goalie. WHY DID WE NOT RESIGN HIM???Please no Mcphee... He is another idiot and arguably the only one worse than Gillis. No wait, Garth Snow is the worse.I should give Gillis some credit, he did not mess up the team instantly like Nonis did, Gillis did his work over the last 3 years.
