Miller wants to join a contender; possible new connection to Canucks?

If indeed Linden and Benning believe Miller could feasibly bring us back in to contention, than this team has more problems than we know of and this first year is a complete write off in terms of either making the playoffs, or getting a high pick in 2015

I don't care who drafted Miller, honestly. We are supposed to have 2 young studs ready to take the reigns. Let them play and may this first season lie where it falls

This Benning signing opened up a whole new dimension. At first my thought is no way, stay the heck away from Miller but then you think: if Trotz is signed and Benning gives enough options to be competitive, would it be worth it to sign Miller to a 1-2 year deal at $3-$5 mill range?

Remember JB is the guy who drafted Miller too so there sure can be a possibility. And it'd give a couple more years for Lack to fully develop instead of rushing him into the starter role and maybe doing more harm than good as he looked shaky after the trade deadline.

Seems Ducks are the team Miller wants to go too but there's a back door possibility he may land in Vancouver dependant on if Benning believes the team can compete at a playoff level. Me personally, I wouldn't mind if most the core stays here for a year or two more. If they do, why not bring him in? Wouldn't make much sense if you think about it having the core remain and a uncertain tender. Idk, but nonetheless this is just a speculation/report.

Next move; sign Miller to $100 million/ 15yr contract and then stomp on him from the first bad game.

Glad player agent is gone. Things are going to start makin sence in Vancouver.

Being a playoff team next season is being optimistic unless we make some big changes.

Squeaking into the playoffs, sure. But actually doing something when we get there is another story.

Too many moves need to be made to realistically expect it to happen in one season. Therefore preparing our young players should be the number 1 goal next season. That includes making sure Lack isn't being thrown into the fire too soon.

Miller likely isn't the right fit here, but I think a veteran goalie could be very helpful for Lack.

This. Excellent post.

I was hoping that Elliot could come in here and play some games for us, but that's not gonna happen.

seriously? to get miller for $3-5 mil, you'd have to give him 7 years, and even then its going to be far closer to $5.

to get him to agree to a deal as short as 1-2 years would take at least $7.5 mil.

Miller is trying to parlay his season into a fairly significant contract, despite being very ordinary in the playoffs.

Lack's numbers were better than Miller's in StL. So why not just stick with Lack and spend money on alternate improvements.

Miller should just stay in StL. Afterall, we waived to go there.

The feeling isn't mutual. STL already said they're going with Allen and Elliot.

There are questions of whether Lack is ready to be the clear cut starter though. He was not the same goalie after Luongo left.

Having a mentor for him for a year wouldn't be the worst thing for his development.

I agree... it is almost certain that we will be signing a veteran goalie for this season. We aren't in a complete rebuild... but certainly a re-tooling. There is no appetite to decimate the entire roster and tank for a few years, but instead be a competitive team that gets into the playoffs most years and is getting better rather than getting worse.

Solid goaltending helps out a lot since it forgives lots of gaffes by young players who miss their assignments.

I don't know that we will go out and get the biggest fish out there on the goalie market... but there are a ton to choose from this year: Miller, Halak, Hiller, Nabokov, Vokoun, Emery, etc.

There was a great interview by the Between the Pipes guy on 1040 and he said that Lack is in need of a year or two of playing in the 40 game range so that he has time to work with Rollie between starts to hone his technique and keep sharp. Seemed like pretty good insight, and having a 1A, 1B situation could be the best bet for the short term.

All other things set aside, I doubt Miller would be a good fit. Considering we are rebuilding/retooling its not a good a idea to get a 33 year old goalie as a starter, not mention the hefty price he's going to be asking.

If we want him as a veteran to tutor our rookie Gs... well he still costs too much.

Skill-wise I think a lot of people are underestimating Miller though. People seem to be saying he sucked on St. Louis even though they're a defensive team. People are forgetting that Chicago completely danced around St. Louis for 4 games straight. Blame the whole team, not just the goalie.

This, well said. This is what I was trying to say aswell.

If we can be a playoff team while getting better & younger, that's the way to go, re-tool things, if a deal comes along for Kesler that makes sense do it, but don't completely blow it up, tank & rebuild.

I don't think Miller should be part of our plans going forward.

he went to a contender this year and brought them down with his sub par play... why would any other contending team think hes the answer??.... its easy to look like a good goalie when you face 40+ shots a night on a bad team and thats what he did

how many cup contenders have a goalie issue?? the ducks?? and i think they pretty much want to go with gibson going forward .. pittsburgh?? fleury wasnt the issue at all this year and has more playoff experience and success than miller.. niemi didnt have a great stretch and playoffs but he does have a cup to his name and was a vezina finalist last year.... the rest of the teams that made the playoffs have tenders Det,stl,TB,chi,LA,Mon,NYR ,boston, philly,Dal, cbj, col, minni (maybe he goes there if backstrom and harding are unable to bounce back)

i think most likely he ends up on a team looking to get back to the playoffs who doesnt have an up and comer in between the pipes already and that would be NYI. they need to show johnny t they are improving around him to keep him happy. as much as i dont think miller is that great hes still a big upgrade on nabokov ...

gimme a break.. Vancouver Canucks and Contender don't go in the same sentence.. at least not anymore.. we are so many pieces away to even be close to being a contender again.. first we need a legitimate first line.. the Sedins and Burrows are a very good 2nd line but no longer 1st line material that'll net you a point a game.. nothing the last 3 years shows they are not on the decline and is due for a rebound. Their style is getting boring and most teams have figured it out. so we need at least 2 legitimate top 6 preferably a top line player which don't really see any in the FA.. and don't think any of our rookies will blow you away and be a top 6 right away.. then there's our defense... there's way too many liability there and with all the NTC we gave up.. sure Benning can ask them for a list.. but at the end of the day they can just say no.. like edler..
