Who will Benning draft?

Sam Reinhart, William Nylander and Leon Draisaitl are all excellent playmakers, but Reinhart will definitely be gone by the 6th pick. With the recent rumors of Toronto's offer for the 1st overall, it seems unlikely we could match that to trade up for him. At least one of Draisaitl or Nylander will be available when we pick. Draisaitl's game is aesthetically the closest to a Sedin. He's not a fast skater by any means, but slows the game down to his level and sees the ice incredibly well. Nylander, on the other hand, has explosive speed and slick moves. He also has great vision, but some times tries one too many moves and creates turnovers. You could probably throw Nikolaj Ehlers in the mix too. Can't really go wrong with any of em

These numbers are unreal for Draisaitl, like getting a hat-trick every game.

there is a lot to like about virtanen's game excepts he suffers from kesleritis....doesn't use his line mates enough...hopefully that can be beat out of him.

lol

If we put him on a line with Kassian and Matthias they can give him a few cans of whoop ass to fix that problem.

Virtanen, if he reaches his potential the guy will be a beauty. Worstcase scenerio you have a solid 3rd liner. Wouldn't mind Ritchie provided his fitness improves and his lack of fitness isn't a reflection of his character/commitment, but this can fight along with having some very good offensive skills.

Unfortunately, poor hockey IQ and vision is something you can't beat out of a player. Poor conditioning and poor defense can be taught, not on ice vision.

Ehlers at 6

trade and grab Ritchie at 10-12

Virtanen at 36 (lol..dream on)

We would clean the draft..Ehlers, Ritchie and Virtanen

Virtanen is rated at #43 on Craig Button's list (available on TSN)....so it might be possible. This list is a combined list of the 1-100 picks for N American and European skaters combined and could give some insight with regards teams 'going off the board'. Central scouting has Ehlers rated at #6 while Craig Buttons list has him at #13. One thing for sure, there are going to be lots of surprises at this years draft.....hopefully good ones for Canuck fans.

p.s. I would take one of Ritchie/Virtanen, Ehlers (orPerlini) and Fluery instead of both Ritchie and Nylander. This would be a good mix of skill, size and defence.

I really think we should trade up for Bennett, perfectly fits the Benning Era as a starting point, great playmaker who works hard every shift and has the bite to win just like he had in Boston.

I'm calling Bennett as our pick. where ever we get him.

That was the guy I was originally focused on.

I was hoping Trev/Benn would trade up for him, due to the fact that he sounds like a cornerstone player, and I believe in building from center ice out.

But since the "Chin-up-gate" scandal broke.....

I'm not sure anymore.....

Virtanen with the second round pick...

After he trades our first to Buffalo for there first next year plus a third rounder either year.

Why would Buffalo trade their 1st round pick in a strong draft year 2015 for our 1st in a weaker draft year 2014?

Shane Gersich did unbelievably well at the Combine but is ranked #132 by Central Scouting so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on whether Bennett not doing so great at chin ups. Bennett can play hockey and is of good character....that's the bottom line.

Oh no. Button has planted fantasies in your head :frantic:

Dare we wish?

Craig Button's list is a combined NA and Euro list whereas the CS list is not. Besides his opinion might be right.....at this point it is just as credible as any other list out there.I can't remember any draft year where CS or anyone else was bang on.
