Looking at the track record of players chosen 6th overall, it's safe to say it's a hit or miss zone for the most part. Either you get lucky and draft a gem or you'll go home with broken goods. Few times you get an average guy though those guys aren't busts but still not worthy of being picked where they were.

We won't be drafting a dman that early with our pick with the lack of top end D talent early on unless Ekblad drops lol. It's unfortunate because there have been 6 dmen picked and there is a high success rate with them compared to the other positions. 4 turned out to be worth it (Coffey, Benning, Ekman-Larsson, Lindholm) while just 2 busted (Redmond & Bennett). A 65% you land a keeper dman, those are some likeable odds.

We also won't be drafting a goalie 6th so that leaves it at a forward plus the 2 goalies picked have both been busts. Seeing the picks, it's a majority mix between hits and misses and then some average players. Notable worthy forward picks have been Damphousse, Forsberg, Stillman, Kozlov, Smyth, Hartnell, and M.Koivu. Notable busts include Brule, Filatov and Fata. Players that turned out to be not worthy also not busts (average) are Michalek, Upshall, and Gagner.

As you can see, these are the facts and reality is we have a hit or miss chance too. Here's to hoping we get a worthy pick and stay away from a bust and an average player. A worthy player would be more than enough. With JB here, I hope he's doing his homework and ensures we get a player that'll leave a lasting legacy. Also, this is the first time the Canucks will pick 6th. Let's hope we make it count :)

So there have been some stars, some busts, and some in between? Thanks for that...

Michalek and Gagner have been not worthy of 6th overall? They've both been consistent ~0.6 PPG over their entire careers. I think you're expecting a little too much.
