He will know of some young talent that many may not! He won the Calder cup a week ago and obviously coached for and against many talented kids! This years draft will be a memorable draft, we may be getting future stars in the later rounds! Desjardins will be of great help in the draft, he is probably very connected to a network people that follow junior and minor hockey etc. Now no more talks of free agents signings or trades that sees a player over 30 coming to the Canucks! I actually agree with you, he will have alot of current connections within the AHL and WHL. I think that after listening to Benning, he somewhat adds another layer onto our ability to reach out to other NHL Execs. I heard Benning talking about how he was talking to Lindsey Ruff, and then mentioned that he had talked to other NHL teams asking for imput before hiring Willie. To Me it seems that with Trevor's, Jim's and Willie's connections, they will have a much better time of it dealing with other GM's, not to mention a better grasp on prospects in and outside the NHL. He has been way too busy winning the AHL title with the Texas Stars. He is a very good talent spotter however at the pro level I am also very excited about the hire, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Can't we just be happy we hired a coach that is very passionate about what he does and it spreads to his players in a positive way? rather than making him sound too good to be true? kylemac3 Posted June 24, 2014 Share Posted June 24, 2014 coachs aren't scouts....coaches tell the gm and president what thjey need and then they go out and hire them. in a draft you get the BPA and that's the scouts and gms job not the coach.
