Canucks to Host Young Stars Classic in Penticton

...featuring Canucks, Flames, Oilers and Jets prospects

VANCOUVER, B.C., — Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they will host the 2014 Young Stars Classic in Penticton, BC, beginning Friday, September 12, 2014. The round-robin tournament will feature prospects from the Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets from September 12-15th and tournament packages will go on sale on Friday, July 11 at 10:00 AM.

We are excited to host the Young Stars Classic, now in its fourth year, in beautiful Penticton, B.C.,” said Trevor Linden, President, Canucks Sports & Entertainment. “This is an excellent tournament to develop and assess our prospects in competitive game situations. We have amazing fans in the Okanagan and look forward to sharing an NHL experience with them while celebrating the rich hockey history of Penticton.”

Tournament ticket packages include six games for $60.00* on sale July 11 at 10:00 AM. This all-event package offers best value to fans with savings of 30% available until August 15th. A new offering this year are two VIP ticket packages for $85.00* and $180.00* (*plus applicable fees). For information and details on what VIP packages include please visit canucks.com/youngstars and valleyfirsttix.com. Tickets are available online at valleyfirsttix.com, by phone at 1-877-763-2849, in person at the South Okanagan Events Centre Valley First Box Office or at Penticton & Wine Country Visitor Centre.

“It is amazing the amount of energy and excitement having four NHL teams coming into our community brings to fans who might otherwise never be able to see an NHL caliber hockey game. The hockey is very skilled, fast, hard hitting and intense as these Young Stars battle to showcase themselves,” said Event Chair and City Councilor Andrew Jakubeit. “The Young Stars Classic will continue the hockey festival theme making it a ‘must attend’ event for any hockey fan while also providing significant economic impact and exposure for our community and facilities. It is growing into a signature event for the city and a great way to kick off the hockey season.”

This year the festivities will include a Canucks Town Hall Breakfast as well as Minor Hockey Day, which will include a Party on the Plaza event with games, food, music and entertainment as well as skills and development camps for B.C. minor hockey players.

Was lots of fun last year, I'd consider going again.

EDIT: just looking at the prices and schedule, but less games and cheaper than last year. No idea what the VIP credential gives me other than something to wear around my neck, but good be a good long weekend trip to Penticton.

Didn't they host it here last year. I know it's fun but don't you think another city should host it.

They've hosted it for all 4 years (including this year). They have an excellent facility in the SOEC arena and it's a great area for both weather and surroundings considering it's right beside the Okanagan Hockey School as well. They aren't likely to move it around each year.

Just to bump this, tickets actually go on sale July 11, and I was able to check in to the 'VIP credential and lanyard' offered in the $85 package. It's basically just swag, so if you like that sort of thing (along with the t-shirt) then it might be worth the extra $25. It's a big bump up to the actual VIP package (free parking, VIP seating, bar access, etc.) from there, but I hope to get some good tickets when they go on sale.

Warhippy, we're coming for a patio party!

Very excited for the tournament again this year. I really hope it becomes an anual thing, fantastic way for both the prospects to get some ice time and fans to see the future of the Canucks in an actual game atmosphere.

Hopefully this year they bother to bring blue helmets as well, always really bothered me.
