jono2009
I am usually the last person that likes "bringing back players" on a second run. But let's face it, our defense has been missing something the past 2 years. Garrison came in, and really has yet to impress. Edler, who knows what the heck is going on with him. And with no hope in the immediate future to trade him, it looks like we will be stuck with him. Yes, he is 2 years older and incher closer to retirement. But I am on the wagon to bring back Sami Salo! He really struck gold in Tampa as far as his contract. But with him being a pending UFA, I am sure he would take a steal of a deal to come back to the team he loves, and be a good 5th or 6th defenseman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H16a7AefiFI
timberz21
If Torts was right on 1 thing during his time here is "We have to stop living in the past", (not his exact word but when he referred to move past 2011).
Desjardins' Mustache
Yea, I would sign him to a one yr deal worth 900,

I fully agree with that quote, and it's not like I am living in 2011. We have some depth on defense. Vetrans never hurt. And the pending UFA's on defense isn't a very huge list. Some already suggest bring back Willie Mitchell.
jono2009
Yea, I would sign him to a one yr deal worth 900,000 Well there is also a respect factor, putting him near league minimum is kind of a slap in the face. I would do in the 1,500,000 range.
elvis15
Yea, I would sign him to a one yr deal worth 900,000 I'd consider a lower priced deal if we move out other right side guys in trades but can't bring someone like Niskanen, or Pouliot/Vatanen in. I doubt he takes $900K though. jono2009, you'll want to edit your title to put in a tag of some sort or this'll get locked. EDIT - Here's the pinned thread at the top of the proposals forum detailing how tags work: All Threads Must Contain Tags When you edit your post, you then have to chose the "Use Full Editor" option and then it'll let you edit the title. elvis15
That should keep the mods at bay. Some people didn't figure this out even after they got into double digit locked posts for missing tags.
jono2009
Lots suggesting bringing back Willie Mitchell as well. I think at least some cosideration for both him and Salo should be valid. Both have some left to offer to teams.
bigbadcanucks
Yes, for a one-day contract so Sami Salo can retire as a Canuck.

Provost
As much as it is living in the past... a bottom pairing of Mitchell-Salo is a whole lot better than Stanton-Corrado if we move out a defenceman. The only way it makes sense is if we were planning on moving out all of Garrison, Edler, Tanev. Having veteran partners for rookies is an excellent idea. Say if we ended up with Pouliot and Ekblad. Bieksa-Hamhuis Pouliot-Salo Mitchell-Ekblad Stanton-Corrado I suspect the identity for the team will be having the defence really activate and have speed, so the likelihood of bringing back either ex-Canuck is pretty remote... and would only happen if other moves failed to materialize. Pouliot and Ekblad? If Canucks get 1st pick they won't be going for Ekblad. And Pouliot? That would be IF Kesler is in talks with Penguins and IF they were to give Pouliot up, which they likely wont be with Niskanen not signing to stay and Pouliot has chemistry with the new coach. I didn't say it was likely... I said that is the scenario that it would have to be for signing Salo and Mitchell to make sense. I also suspect that if we did make the Kesler trade and the trade for 1st overall... we would end up with one blue chip forward or defence... and with the one we didn't get, we would select the other in the draft. eg. If we go Pouliot for Kesler, we would draft Reinhart. If we got Nyqvuist for Kesler, we would draft Ekblad.

canucklehead44
Salo still has game. 20 points for a bottom pairing defenseman is decent, on top of that he had the fourth highest +/- on the team, decent possession numbers while playing against a high quality of competition. Essentially the perfect number 5 defenseman.I think he could land a one year deal somewhere for 2.5-3 million, no way he signs for 900K.

RunningWild
Time to bring Sami home. Nucks lost a top 4 dman who can drive play and play tough mins (Garriosn). They are 1 injury in the top 4 short of: Hamhuis-Bieksa Edler- Stanton Weber-Corrado Nothing about that is inspiring. Sami may be 40, but he played the toughest mins in Tampa last yr and had great advanced stats. Positive possession play, low goals against etc. Plus, Nucks need to replace the GarryBomb. Time to bring Sami home
viking mama
Hell ya, bring him back. I have his jersey. If he can play, great...but if he can't hold-up, & breaks-down...he's still an excellent mentor & could be a pseudo-asstistant-coach for the D-corps. Make it freakin' so!
