Coaches will ruin his career trying to mold him into a player he's not.

Has anyone ever considered asking Jake how he wants to play the game? After all, it's his career and nobody elses..

I see that too. May have to accept some of his warts to let his skills shine. See - Vanek.

How is that being patient?

Lee put up 16 pts in 24 games...

Virtanen is at 24 in 108 lol

Lee was an impact player once he made It to the show. Virtanen not so much.

Every time I watch Jake play I see flashes of brilliance followed by a boneheaded move. He can take the puck to the net and be a North South player like nobodies business, but it seems he’s insisting on being a finesse, cerebral kind of guy when that was never his game. I don’t know if it’s the coaches or what but he’s at his best when he’s playing like a human pinball.

Jake does well when he's dished the puck deep in his zone, with the wheels already going, drives the puck up the boards and through the neutral zone and shoots or distributes. They did this over and over in the 8 shot game he had in D-town. They actually gave him the puck in a position for him to succeed.

And as far as the backhand-to-no one goes , how many other players missed assignments on that, quite beautiful, up-ice transition by the opposition?

His speed breaks the trap and gains the O-zone. Put him with 53 and 6 and see how it goes.

Exactly. His skill set screams skate the puck up ice wide and back off the D while gaining the zone. If he can't cut to the net he should stop and curl to try to set something up. Virt, Bo, Boeser. Do it.

And Jake does what you suggest he does Better on the left side.  Please play Jake on LEFT WING!!!

Nino Niedereitter is a better example:

Both high draft picks, big, power forward type players. Nino didn't start scoring at the NHL level until his draft + 5 season. Draft + 5 for Jake would be next season, hopefully he'll be able to put it all together starting next season. Otherwise, I don't ever see him becoming a top 6 forward.

For sure. Better angle on his shot. The season is a bust. Would it kill Green to throw JV out on 3 on 3. Maybe the kid lites it up and gets a confidence boost.

Not sure why the Vancouver Brass are trying to force players to be something they aren't.

It seems to be clear that Virtanen wants to be a pure bread scorer over being a ploughhorse type of guy.  I get they are trying to develop good habits in playing a complete game, but maybe trying to bulldoze every guy and be physically challenging/intimidating isn't exactly what Virtanen wants to be.  He was physical in junior because he was physically more developed than the rest of the teenagers in the WHL, so he used it to his advantage, but you look out there now, he looks hesitant to make big hits or to use that style of game now.  Attribute that to either he is leary of reinjuring his shoulder or just doesn't want to engage in that kind of physicality now, but they need to start giving him some looks with more offensively inclined guys and try him out in offensive situations.  Im not saying he can't do those things, but it apparently seems to be he doesn't want to do those things.  If he isn't going to be a bruiser, utilize his speed, shot, and power in a different way.

It just looks like the same situation with Tryamkin, trying to force him into a style of play "Pronger style" which he wasn't remotely comfortable doing.  Could be the same for Jake, you just look at where his eyes are at, and it doesn't scream wanting to initiate that mean streak.

It seems to be that management has determined that he isn't good enough at scoring to make it to the NHL with that kind of style, so in order to make use of him, they've turned him into a bruiser, something he is good enough to play at the NHL level.

Just watching Jake on the ice whether on TV or live, he just doesn't seem all that interested in being that bruiser like player.  Watch when there are scrums, battles, his eyes aren't on the player to make the hit, rather his eyes are looking to get the puck.

Would be interesting what player comparison they are teaching Jake to be.  Videos of Lucic or etc.

Maybe they should put Jake with players who will form the future core of this team. Y'know, make him feel special, like he's a big part of the future.

Virtanen - Horvat - Boeser

It would probably give Jake a boost of confidence, he'd probably rack up some points, and police who takes liberties with Brock. Having him all over the lineup with different line mates from game to game, can't help. It's probably confusing for him, isn't able to develop chemistry with anyone. They're not setting Jake up for success IMO.
