For much of the year Jake has been playing on Sutter’s line. That line is not generally put on the ice to score - they are meant to be mainly a defensive presence. When Jake was on that line, he did what was asked of him, he made life generally unpleasant for the other team’s top line - as in, keep your head up, there is a locomotive loose on the ice. That was his role. Looks like he has been asked to bring a little more offence in Sutter’s absence. The shutdown role has moved to Horvat - taking most of the defensive face offs, etc. Granlund has suffered from having that same responsibility - he scored 19 goals two years ago - he didn’t suddenly become an offensive dud, he was asked to do something else for the team - which he did. I missed half the game last night though so I'm wondering if he had some massive hit. The shotgun jake ritual is hot like fire though lol. How did it start.
