MoneypuckOverlord
Dont tell me your a stat watcher ... You seem above that. I do personally expect more from first rounders, that said, I am still extremely excited to have him and still no regrets, I always wanted him over Ehlers Nylander, nothing has changed. It's just an expectation I will like to see out of a 1st rounder. unlike you clowns, accept everything and anything that is from our prospects? I guess your also satisfied with Jensens progress? yea? gonna call me out as a stats scout in regards to him? Silly Nucks fans.
garrybettman69
Virtanen and kesler I think have similar personalities and both hit hard to agitate and are both shoot first players. I think the better comparison for Virtanen would be evander Kane tho
MoneypuckOverlord
the only similarities between the 2 were both players were excellent skaters, physical players, and a deadly wrist shot. However at the same age Virtannen seems to be far more mature. His interviews for a 18 year old seem impressive.
guntrix
JV isn't even playing that great this year in junior. I wish people would stop slotting him into the Canucks line-up next year or even make comparisons like these...

logic
unless Virtanen does really well at training camp we should give him one more full season of jr without injuries, so don't even bother with the 9 games unless he really deserves it.
messier's_elbow
... not all of us have time to watch both the Canucks and their corresponding farm teams. What else are we supposed to be judging him on? A top six pick should have elite offensive prowess and the only way to judge that is by stat watching. All Im saying is how can you make a fair assessment of a prospect when your never watching him play?
Ghostsof1915
I don't want to rush Jake. But it's games like last night I really hope he's NHL ready next season.

I don't think a lot of you realize how tremendous a physical specimen he is. He'll be the fastest and pretty much the strongest Canuck right out the gate. And he still has room to grow. You guys love Horvat, right? Wait till you get a load of Virtanen.

Mathew Barzal
All Im saying is how can you make a fair assessment of a prospect when your never watching him play? We can't, that's why we're also dependant on those that do watch prospect games frequently. But that doesn't mean we should sit back and wait for input from the few guys that do tune in for Virts games. Stats aren't the be all end all of players but they're a damn good indicator of progression. And the reason that this forum exists is so that we can bitch, moan, and argue to death about how our team and its prospects are doing, because we're passionate. Can't fault us on that man, just have take it in stride.

Our physical play was not the issue.. our passing was so off and we kept turning pucks over that way

Hamhuis gift wrapped their third goal for them. (On the ice for all 4 I believe) They were given so many opportunities because we couldn't make a simple pass to clear the zone. TheSnipeshow91
I'd rather give him one more year in the dub, so he could develop into a dominate offensive force. That one year could be the difference between a 20 goal scorer and a 40 goal scorer. Virtanen would be able to explore his creativity with the puck. Do things he normally wouldn't do in the NHL.

A good solid off-season to work on his offensive ability will be very beneficial as well. Virtanen will also get far more offensive starts with the departure of Calgary's overagers next season.
Gaudette Celly
We thought that for this season, too. Does not appear he's in a good situation to develop.
Erik Karlsson
We thought that for this season, too. Does not appear he's in a good situation to develop. This, he will be with the nucks next season whether or not most posters want to believe it.
