2011-12: Forsling played for Linkoping's U18 and U16 teams and played in three international games with Sweden's U16 team; representing Ostergotland for the second time in the TV-Pucken tournament. He scored 5 goals with 3 assists and was +9 with 10 penalty minutes in 27 U18 regular season games and was +1 with 1 assist in three playoff games. I like it, Swedish OFD.

I actually had him on my list as a consideration, I was hoping we might take him later in the later rounds of this draft coming in, and now we took him.

I would have liked Dystin Mayo at this pick, then Forsling later on, but still a very solid choice. Good pickup.

If you check the Nylander U18 highlights, he's was a top D man on the Swedish PP, #4 I think.

Gustav Forsling, Defenseman, Linkoping U18 (Sweden)

Slightly undersized defenseman is especially effective in the offensive zone where he adept at either using his very heavy shot or distributing the puck quickly and efficiently. Size is always a factor but his skating and hockey I.Q make up for it.

Draft Guys on 1040 had this kid at 46. Says his offensive upside is very comparable to that of Julius Honka, but says the difference is his ability to handle the forecheck is lesser than that of Honka. BUT, definately one of the top offensive d-men in the draft.
