I would not assume Vey will be in Utica. He would never clear waivers. Hopefully his family issues are cleared up and he has a strong camp. If he does not show enough in the fall I expect he will be moved in some manner.

Maybe moved on waivers. He didn't get any bites when the Canucks basically offered him to the league at the deadline, so unless he comes to camp a changed man he won't get any better responses. And if does come in with a roar then he'll be on our roster, not anyone else's.

Wonder if pettit could transfer to defence? Less pressure to score and could open up another goal scorer if he goes in for a face off

It's not necessarily and easy transition. The defensive responsibilities are a bit different and he might not fit. Not saying he couldn't do it, but he's more likely to earn a pro deal as a defensive centerman.

Just because he is a good defensive forward doesn't mean he can become a good defenceman, it would never happen, especially at this level.  When have you ever seen a defenceman come in to take a draw?  C'mon man

Didn't a D man take a draw for the Flames in the infamous Torts/Hartley game?

Right, it was for us. Man I miss juice. I'm happy to have gotten a 2nd for him but it just doesn't feel right not having him around. He's been a big part of the team pretty much as long as I've watched (~10 years)

What a personality, eh?

My favourite moment was when he pretended to be Kesler for an interview. So much lol.

The best. I really hope he comes back to the Canucks in some capacity. I think he could make a good colour guy for the commentary

Straight money. The banter level would be over 9000.

This is totally off-topic, but riffing off that, I was watching one of the few games on YouTube the other day, and Garret used to be Shorthouse's biatch. I'm happy he's managed to carve out a better niche for himself by throwing in "corsi" and questioning "what is a hit?" Lately. I remember Shorthouse being stumped at the beginning. You could tell he felt like he was losing the "smart city slicker" thing he has going.

lol, gotta love John Garret. I see him at the safeway by my house once in a while and you wouldn't recognize him. Sweatpants and his hair/mustache a total mess. It's a sight to see.

We've gone way off topic

Buying all those products he so clearly loves when discussing Safeway savings on air. Oh man, that's way too awesome. I saw Hansen at the Safeway by my house buying diapers like a couple hours before a game last season. I also used to see Mike Gillis in his neck-beard era rolling around in his car. Man I miss seeing that.

But yeah, Kyle Pettit is kaput for the Canucks. Honestly, this tangent has kinda been symbolic of how fans feel about the dude anyway.

Haha very true. I wonder if anybody gives him a look...maybe he can develop even a bit of an offensive touch but that seems unlikely. His size, faceoff ability, and defensive acumen may get him a contract though.

Yeah man, it's possible, but I sure hope we're not the saps who give out that intitial contract.

My bet's on him being, if anything, a late blooming defensive specialist. So, I'd be happy to pick him up on like his second or third, preferably third contract, if he's worth it by then. Kiiiiinda leaning towards he won't be, though.

Is it possible for him to sign an AHL deal? Would he have to re-enter the draft and go I drafted first? I think that would be the best scenario for him

That's a good point. Pretty sure he wouldn't have to re-enter the draft. But, honestly, he probably needs time in the ECHL first

Yeah very well could, but IMO there's enough promise to his game that he'll get an AHL/ECHL deal from somebody. It's tough to say cause even guys like Malhotra and Ryan Johnson put up numbers at lower levels.

That's great news. Hope Trader Jim gets this player locked up. He deserves it. Worked his way into becoming the captain this season. Hopefully he does well with added responsibility

Rights expired this year and wasn't signed to an ELC so he's not Canucks property anymore.

But I expect he'll at least get some consideration from NHL teams for camp invites next year.

He's already matched (in 20 games) his scoring totals from last season (when he played 58 games). So he's roughly tripled his scoring rate.

Putting up a good amount of goals (11) and staying above a point per game (21 points in 20 GP) this season.

Not bad for a defensive forward.

And a 59.7 FO% (sixth in OHL among players with 50+ draws).

Of course, he's an overager.

Good for him being named captain, but as Sid says he's not our prospect anymore. He may get a look in the AHL for sure, and eventually in the NHL, but it's not a major loss.
