[Speculation] Canucks Open to More Trades?

Recommended Posts

Teams that are close to the cap are

Bruins

Kings

Flyers

Blackhawks

Flyers are rumoured to pretty much buy out Lecavalier if they can't make a deal with any team, the other 3 are pretty close to the cap and they might be looking at some outside help. The Kings are most likely content with their team, but who knows.

Nice! I like it!

That was basically Trev doing a commercial for cap space rental,

I say bring on the crappy contracts/players (As long as the deals are up in a year or two)

We will be MORE than happy to take your 2015 draft picks for our trouble!

Remember when Trev said that he expects us to make the PO's and contend plus I don't think the owners would be glad to hear they are paying a lot of money to take bad contracts and still be a losing team.

I really can see Tanev being moved for some more pieces. I would really like to see him stay and play a big role, but he is going to be very sought after and will bring a decent return. I wouldn't mind bringing in Brad Richards on the cheap as a 2c to help develop Horvat and Gaunce. Vey could be the new 3c for now and move Richardson to 4c.

I'm pretty sure Trevor is talking about players who aren't crappy and are just a cap dump. He's looking for guys that other teams might be thinking about off loading who still have some value. I would he would be talking about maybe a guy like Kris Versteeg or possibly a defender like Johnny Oduya, who might be players that Chicago might be looking to trade but can't find a team for their cap hits.

Brad Marchand to Vancouver.

:bigblush:

Yes! That way we have MORE opportunities to "friendly fire" him. We usually cant pummel him because we see the bruins like once or twice!

GOOD IDEA. We can always beat him up and pummel him while he's sleeping/taking a bath/doing yoga/etc..

Sort of off topic but does anyone know who were the RFAs that the Canucks qualified?

I only know Tanev and Kassian were given their QOs. Linden Vey will presumably be qualified also. What about:

  • Jordan Schroeder;
  • Darren Archibald (would seem to fit in the Benning system);
  • Zac Dalpe;
  • Yannick Weber (not very good defensively but not a bad PP specialist);
  • Peter Andersson (seems to be developing reasonably);
  • Yann Sauve;
  • Brandon de Fazio;
  • Anton Rodin; and
  • Billy Sweatt.

I can understand letting guys like de Fazio and Sauve go. I'm not sure how the contract status works for Rodin and Sweatt but if they need to be qualified, my guess is that the Canucks will pass on them this year. This will give the Canucks more contracts to work with (for FAs or in trades).

It's a little sad if Schroeder is allowed to go to free agency. It would have been nice to see him get more of an opportunity in the top 6 but he had a hard time staying healthy this season. At the same time however, his production has been a bit underwhelming, even at the AHL level. He's also not going to be a physical presence. Nonetheless, he seems to have decent vision, two-way ability (not amazing but underrated IMO) and all-round skills so hopefully he is able to put everything together wherever he ends up. I believe he will be a good complimentary player.

I wouldn't mind the Canucks keeping Dalpe as a depth forward (for the Comets) - not sure how popular he would be on waivers anyway. He never got any flow going last season until he started to get a bit more ice time. He was decent on faceoffs too. That said, he doesn't have a great two-way game nor is he a physical presence.

We are definitely going to see some more trades as some teams need to clear cap space already, and since under the new CBA they can talk to UFAs before July 1st, teams that have made a sales pitch to UFAs that showed signs that they would sign on at a price might also have to clear some cap space for that player.

The thing about cap dumps is that usually they are not key pieces, but role players. I think we can look to upgrade up front by flipping Hansen for a player who probably makes $1-2mil more than he does, or more.
