putin347
The Washington Capitals has marked LW Dustin Penner's situation as "unlikely to be back". It would be great for us to sign a guy like Penner who has a big and physical upside to his game as well as a good scoring touch with his former teammate and line mate centre Nick Bonino. Dustin Penner played great in Anaheim and really enjoyed his time in Anaheim as he said that it was sad leaving there. Penner also arguably played his best hockey this year when he was playing beside Bonino. As for the Canucks who is currently missing a solid second line left winger as Higgins is streaky and Burrows's situation is still unknown, Penner would be a great pick up as he won't be as competitive on the market as some other wingers on the market, like Cammeleri and Jussi Jokinen, who are also great considerations. However, what makes Dustin Penner a better fit for the canucks is his rugged playing style as well as his proven chemistry with former teammate Nick Bonino. As we all know in sports, chemistry isn't something that we can often develop, so it would be a safe move for the canucks to get a guy like Dustin Penner to play along side our newly acquired second line Centre, Nick Bonino. This way, we can get started on scoring right off the bat next year. Oh and did I mention, he's won't be as competitive on the market and his salary is $2 Million as of now? This sounds prettttty sweeeeettttt. Spread the word!!!! Cheers!!!
Disaronno
He never played for the Medicine Hat Tigers. No dice!
putin347
What does that have to do with anything? We ain't gonna sign everybody with ties to the Medecine Hat Tigers just because of the coach. Penner is proven that he can play with Bonino. We gotta make Bonino comfortable.
Junkyard Dog
Solid idea. Though I would only want him on a short term contract.
Tangelos
pancakes? lol no thanks. we're trying to fill our team with character guys
Disaronno
It was a partial joke. Penner has shown to be inconsistent and is really slow on the ice. Also, why is this in the "off topic" section?
viking mama
Dustin Penner has had a very spotty record since 2010,... altho' his brief stint with the Ducks seemed semi-successful. Yet, they stll moved him on to WASH. I think the knock on him is that he disappears for stretches. ..& doesn't always play as big on the ice ...as he is...or as people think he could...seems to carry a lot of excess weight around on his listed 6' 4" frame too. Is fitness an issue.., or is this more a result of not being played for many minutes. The onus would then be on him to prepare himself for game fitness,.. in other ways,...does he not do this? putin347
Yea man I got it lol. And yea, I'm new to the forum. Joined because I really wanted to throw this idea out there. Do you know how to unmake it an off topic section? Thanks!
YEGCanuck
Penner couldn't aid his mother let alone a hockey team.
viking mama
Dustin Penner may have the same issues that Nick Ritchie could have if/when he becomes an NHL Pro. Some guys/players just don't have the lean-gene...and it haunts them. SOB says hi!
Wilbur
Ew no. And who's to say Bonino won't have better chemistry with, say, Kassian? As for making him comfortable? Doubt that'll be an issue looking at the personalities on the team.
putin347
Kassian is a right wing, Penner is Left. We have no one on the left wing apart from higgins. Burrows is basically done, plus he prefers to play right wing. Penner will come cheap. We don't have to sign him long-term.
Disaronno
Burrows or Higgins could play LW on a line with Bonino & Kassian. Or Benning could go out and target a Moulson/Raymond/Pouliot type player. Many more options to explore before Penner IMO.
mpt
We want guys who work hard, not hardly work
RogerEpic5
As good as this might sound, I think I'm going to pass on this one. Maybe because Penner isn't that same guy anymore. He used to be that 40-60 point player and now he's gotten off his tracks. That being said I short term deal would be fine. But if we don't sign him, then I wouldn't be too sad. putin347
True but the guys you mentioned are highly targeted guys that will end up asking for a lot. And I wouldn't consider Mason Raymond at all. We gave him many chances, he didn't fit. We need to move on.
MayRayDown
Penner is nothing more than a 3rd liner
putin347
And by the way, does anybody knows how I can change this topic out of "off-topics"? Thanks
Zoolander
I wouldn't do it. Kassian could be a perfect fit with Bonino and we're looking for guys with character....Penner is one of the laziest hockey players in recent memory
surtur
Burrows or Higgins could play LW on a line with Bonino & Kassian. Or Benning could go out and target a Moulson/Raymond/Pouliot type player. Many more options to explore before Penner IMO.I'm hell bent on seeing Matthias Bonino kassian.. We have an abundance of centers someone will need to play wing and Matthias has a lot of skill to go with his size and he is fast .I say try it. But I am not the coach.
