BUF initiate compliance buy out on Ehrhoff

Recommended Posts

I actually think the New York Rangers should make a move for Ehrhoff. He seemed to play really well under Coach V's system. If he still has a competitive drive, he wouldn't join Vancouver and struggle to adjust his game to new coaches or carry the team through its transition phase. He should play under the coach where he had the most success, and where he got that fat contract in the first place.

BRING BACK EHRHOFF!!!!!!

In hindsight he was one of our MVPs over the two years he was here.

While it is merely a correlation, the team was very different over the two seasons Ehrhoff was here. Our power play was incredible and 5 on 5 he was excellent at carrying the puck up the ice. +36 his first season, in addition to his excellent power play and underrated PK abilities.

One other big piece is his D partner - Alex Edler. Edler was fantastic with Ehrhoff and Salo, but he is terrible with Bieksa and hasn't really worked with Tanev either. We still need a puck moving dman, and Ehrhoff could be that guy for us...again.

- it's his uncanny ability to get shots through traffic -

Remember these gems from November? Shot right through the bridge/gap of the skate, to win the game in OT.

Close up of the shot in Slo-Mo of the shot starts at :38.

In this one, also from November, he plays goalie and then shoots the puck down the ice for a goal.

Not according to Anaheim fans he's not. They're happy they could dump him in the deal with us and were tired of his injuries and defensive play not being good enough. He's physical, but isn't a lock to be more than a 3rd pairing D-man, and not even at that if he's outperformed by Stanton. Edler and Hamhuis are still higher on the depth chart as well.

Sbisa was expendible bc of the emergence of Vatanen, fact they have Theodore in junior as well as a few other prospects.

Sbisa isn't 'not good enough' - he is very capable of being a 3/4 and Desjardins knows his game from his time in the WHL.

Suggesting 'ducks fans say' is the same as saying what people on this site say, which as you know, can be very biased and wrong most of the time.

Sign him and make a few small roster moves and we are both in a great transition spot (using youth) and also competing well enough that if we get in, we can make some noise.....see my roster below

Not really the same though. We have so many people on here the ones who often get heard are the worst ones. A smaller online fan base isn't a guarantee of higher quality, but there wasn't much dissension on that point from any of the fans. It's worth noting, and regular 3/4 minutes is an absolute push for Sbisa.

Look at the facts, Sbisa was 7th in ice time per game among Duck defenceman who played at least 30 games. Add in Robidas and his 14 games and he drops to 8th. Only Fistric was behind him in ice time. Sbisa was 6th in even strength time, 7th in short handed and only had 14 seconds of PP time per game.

The playoffs didn't get any better for him, with only 2 games played and nearly 3 minutes less ice time than the regular season. Vatanen played 3 more games than him and had 6 more minutes per game. Sbisa had more PP time per game in the playoffs (5th on the team), but was still 8th in even strength and 6th in PK.

Those aren't indicative of top 4 minutes ahead of any of our other defencemen already playing that much, especially not ahead of anyone on the left side (Hamhuis and Edler). That barely suggest 5/6 D-man.

Rather have them get a top lottery pick just for this upcoming season (high enough to get even Barzal) but If canucks really want to try and make the playoffs:

Sign Erhoff

Tanev + 2015 2nd + Gaunce for Myers

Sign Hiller for cheap and short term only

Get Mcquaid for depth

Do whatever it takes to get Ryan Johansen out of columbus lol...2015 1st + Burrows + McCann + Markstrom + (probably not enough for columbus to pull the trigger)

Daniel - Henrik - Jensen

Bonino - Johansen - Kassian

Shinkaruk - Horvat - Hansen/Vey (insert signed FA on this line if hunter is not ready or if hansen is traded)

Dorsett - Matthias - Lain

Hamhuis - Myers

Edler - Erhoff

Sbisa - Bieksa

- Mcquaid, stanton

Lack

Hiller

Benning can try to sign more FAs or more trades to tweak the lineup.

I agree with those moves, especially if Buffalo eats cap on Myers. That is a sick D group. Even without Myers, brining in Ehrhoff to partner with Edler opens up the possibility of Bieksa and Hamhuis matching up again, moving Tanev with Sbisa.

Hey SabreFan, I'm guessing you like the looks of a certaIn Sam Reinhart with a sword on his jersey....

Nice pick.

Reinhart, Grigorenko and Girgensons and a team that was quite shallow down the middle is starting to look pretty damn good!

I'm loving it! What's even better is that there will be more pickups in the 2015 draft. The Sabres only took one defenceman in their 9 picks this year. They are pretty deep when it comes to young defencemen.

Add even more center/wing talent from next year's draft (Three 2015 1st round picks so far) and the Sabres are going to be a "scary good" powerhouse team in 2 or 3 years time.

Fans from other teams can dump on the Sabres all that they want to because exciting things are happening here. We have always been patient with our sports teams and have never had a problem selling out the building(s).

I may have to change my banner soon though. Sam says that he wants to go by his actual birth name, "Samson".

Try more like 5 years 30 million . He becomes the best free agent defenceman available and there will be a bidding war.

I forgot the pickings are slim this year for quality guys.

They could target Del Zotto instead. He is still young just needs to get back to his form early on.

I'd do it. He's remembered as bad defensively, especially in the cup final but that's likely due to his heavily increased minutes and having more pressure on him to perform. I think he's similar to Bieksa in that you control his minutes and have him as a piece in the puzzle rather than focus on him being your #1 guy. He was a +50 in his time here and ~ 0.6PPG. Due to the powerplay, obviously.

With the rumour that WD wants to bring in Doug Lidster as an assistant, and Lidster is one of the highest scoring Canucks defensemen of all time, that could be an interesting dynamic. Although Lidster was a career -90...

Some team is going to pay him 4 - 5M on a 5yr term, if that's what he wants though.

He was playing injured in the final.
