BUF initiate compliance buy out on Ehrhoff

Recommended Posts

Edler-Ehrhoff

Hamhuis-Bieksa

Sbisa-Corrado/Stanton/etc.

OR

Edler-Ehrhoff

Hamhuis-Tanev

Sbisa-Corrado/Stanton/etc.

I could live with either if the return for Bieksa or Tanev is someone that can either add offense to our second line. It's all about asset management to garner more quality depth.

It very much is. Fans who want to re-sign Ehrhoff are still trying to recapture that 2011 feeling. It didn't work for Darryl Sutter when he re-signed Jokinen and Tanguay.

I doubt JB is even considering him anyways. Our defense is crowded and Ehrhoff doesn't fit with his vision of "meat and potatoes style" type of player.

Or maybe fans who want to re-sign Ehrhoff want a true offensive minded puck moving dman who also has shown he can pair with Edler to bring out his best.

To say people only want to re-sign Ehrhoff to relive the glory days is BS. Some probably do but not me. It is about what this team needs. And we need a guy like Ehrhoff very badly. And maybe Ehrhoff needs a team like the Canucks badly too.

How do buyouts work exactly ?

http://www.capgeek.com/player/121

It looks like Ehrhoff had a front end loaded contract, and had already paid him 22 million over 3 seasons. (10m, 8m, 4m).

They will buy out 2014-2021 (worth 18m over 7 years).

They are allowed to pay out only 75% (12m) over 2014-2028 (14 years, $857,143.00/year) with no cap hit ?

That sounds like they are allowed to stretch that over way too many years.

Where exactly would Ehrhoff fit on this team. You've got Edler, Hamhuis, Tanev, Bieksa and Sbisa who IMO, are all top 4 dmen. Weber is also said to have gotten a 1 way contract. There's literally no spot for him.

Sbisa who rode the pine in the playoffs top 4? I'm not going to say he can't be one, but he's our 7th D until he proves otherwise.

With one siging you fix Edler, fix the powerplay, and can trade Tanev to fill a huge hole on the 2nd line. He is absolutely going to think about it, and think very hard. He'd be an absolute boob if he didn't.

What I want to know is the following. It truly looks like Buffalo is intentionally stripping talent from their team in an attempt to be a bad team for the upcoming Mac David draft.

Even if this is not the case it looks like they're doing less than their best to put a competitive product on the ice.

At what point does the league step in and ask the Sabres wtf they're doing?

I don't think we should sign him. I'd rather use up a roster spot on stanton or give top 4 duty to Tanev..

We gotta quit trying to relive 2011.

Forget 2011, I want to watch entertaining hockey again.

The Hoff with the Sedins brings that.

We won't be a cup contender, but at least we'll see some nice rushes up the ice, and actually have some creativity in the offensive zone.

Those who want him back should know that his play has dipped quite a bit since we've seen him.

And as a UFA, would he even want to come back? Detroit looks more like a fit to me.

I like the idea of him going to Detroit and convincing AHLex to waive for them. If we're really rebuilding, AHLex may reconsider waiving his NTC to go to a contender.

If they want the Nhl could simply rig it so they don't get their guy.

However, they'll get another pretty good guy regardless.

Phoenix buying out Ribeiro for no reason at all is also a concern. But the Nhl would gladly give them McD.

Why buy him out? I'm sure some teams like Philly or Detroit are looking for puck moving d-men like him. Buffalo could've at least gotten a 2nd round pick from trading him...

Cap recapture. Buffalo is doing exactly what we should have done about the Luongo contract.

This! It's about what he can do now, for Edler, for the Twins, for the youth, for the team.

Ehrhoff left because Gillis drew a line and low-balled him. He was worth more than Bieksa and Hamhuis, and I don't blame him for not wanting to take that kind of money.

All Gillis had to do was offer him 5.5 mil on a 3 or 4 year term deal and he probably would have stayed. It was better than signing Garrison to 900k less, only to dump him two years later.
