zombieksa
Since he is leaving I am assuming both parties aren't close to a deal. He wouldn't leave if they were close to a deal. Assuming he is in fact leaving. Which he probably is, no point waiting around getting out of shape. He's gotta train some where, and he isn't welcome around the team right now. Think man, think. Columbus is a college town, and surprisingly a hockey town, I am sure there are places to do drills and workout. I'm not speculating a trade is imminent, I just think staying in the city he is trying to strike a deal with may show respect and commitment. I just think it is a bold move is all. insomniac604
He's just coming home because he can't be part of CBJ camp. The chances of him signing here are remote. We're not gonna pay more than Columbus and even they don't want to go that high. He would have to take a steep hometown discount and would still cost us half our team. 2SKATES1STICK
I wouldn't mind throwing an offer at Johansen. This is a young, 22 year old PWF who is getting better. He already put up 63 in 82, he can put up 70+ next season, and possibly 80+ next season. Bonino + Horvat + 2015 1st is something I'd do. Johansen is a 1st line centre, we can hope Horvat becomes one, our 2015 1st will be a late one with Johansen on our team. Johansen replaces Bonino, we already have McCann and Gaunce as our future top 9 centres. He already got all the offensive zone starts and top line mates to play with. I can't imagine his output is going to increase much more than it is.
Go Faulk Yourself
Just out of curiosity, what happens if both sides are totally deadlocked and a deal can't be reached? He either gets traded which they've constantly said they're not entertaining, or he sits out the year.
zombieksa
BOOM JOHANSEN TO VANCOUVER 7 YEAR 40 MILLION DANIEL HANK BURROWS KASS JOHANSEN VRBATTA Bonino, Horvat and 2015 1st getirrrrdoneeee The idea of Kassian sending some of his Henrik-like passes to Johansen makes me half-chub, but it will never happen. HowYaDrouin
Getzlaf was a year older at the time he put up those numbers and CBJ is balking at even $5+M over 6 years. They'll have to up the price to pay for some of those UFA years they'll be buying on a longer deal. To be clear, I'm not an Overhardt fan at all. I'm also not a fan of the way cap hits have increased even after the lockout, but that's the reality we're in. To see Getzlaf and Perry getting $8+M per year, Toews and Kane with $10.5M starting next year, and even guys like Bolland getting $5.5M on a 5 year deal means Johansen are likely closer to in line with what he should get than Columbus are. While I agree that RJ does deserve more than the 3-3.5 that's being offered, I just think that he needs to accept that he's in a position of weakness (no negotiating rights), and go to Kikko and say "look, this is going nowhere, let's get a deal done, give me 4 over 2 and let's call it a day." I also think it's immature to be flying back to van, he should be staying in CBJ trying to get a deal done. It just kinda shows how unwilling he is to negotiate, I'm sure he could find an arena and a gym in Columbus to train at. Kinda reminds me of the Camilo situation, and we all know how well that turned out.

I can't imagine his output is going to increase much more than it is. You could say that about 21 year old Getzlaf and Perry and the 22 year old versions of themselves as well. Getzlaf jumped from 58 to 82 points over those two seasons, while Perry went from 44 to 54. That wasn't because all the good players from the Stanley Cup winning team in 2006/07 left and they got significantly different opportunities in 2007/08. zombieksa
Michael Arace: Blue Jackets John Davidson said that they offered Ryan Johansen: two-years at $6 million ($3 million cap hit), six-years at $32 million ($5.33 million cap hit) and eight-years at $46 million ($5.75 million). Okay, if this is true, this is the showing of a player who has no intention of playing for Columbus. That 6 year contract is pretty lucrative if you ask me.
