Philadelphia Flyers star Claude Giroux arrested in Ottawa

Recommended Posts

"Philadelphia Flyers star Claude Giroux spent the night in an Ottawa Police cell after an incident involving a police officer, sources tell the Sun. Although few details were immediately available, a source said Giroux was arrested for repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer. Alcohol is believed to have been involved. A witness and sources say the incident occurred outside The Great Canadian Cabin in the Byward Market club district. They say officers were inside the bar when one officer had his butt grabbed by a patron. The officer told the patron not to behave like that, but was grabbed again. At that point, the patron was taken outside and arrested. The officer involved did not initially recognize Giroux. Ottawa Police have refused any comment on the incident. Police said they cannot comment unless charges are laid, but several sources did confirm to the Sun Giroux spent the night in jail."

Philadelphia Flyers superstar Claude Giroux reportedly spent Tuesday night in an Ottawa jail after partying a little too hard. The Ottawa Sun reported that Giroux was arrested after an incident with a police officer. A source told the paper that Giroux was detained after “repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer.” Unsurprisingly, alcohol was believed to be a factor, according to the report. Ottawa police have yet to comment on the incident, but Giroux reportedly is expected to be released without any criminal charges. Flyers general manager Ron Hextall released a short statement via Twitter on Wednesday morning. "We are aware of reports surrounding Claude Giroux. Until we have more information, we will withhold making any further comment." -Hextall — Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) July 02, 2014 Giroux is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. The Philly captain finished third in Hart Trophy voting after scoring 28 goals and adding 58 assists in 82 games for the Flyers.

I wonder what it was if charges haven't already been laid. At first I thought it was probably a DUI coming off a long night of drinking for Canada Day, but usually those charges would be brought almost immediately. I'm actually really curious to what it was.
