Kudos to the Sedins

IMO they are believers of this team and the new management. If things remained the same from last year, I expect that they may have wanted out too. But to be the main guys to look up to (teaching youth etc, which is already evident by helping kassian last summer and beyond) on a future winner (again, belief in the team) is a pretty competative and uplifting prospect to adhere to..

I'm not surprised in the slightest.

Sedin says that Vigneault was the problem, Vigneault gets shipped out

Sedin says that Luongo was the problem, Luongo gets shipped out.

Sedin says that Torts was the problem, Torts gets shipped out.

Sedin says that Gillis was the problem, Gillis gets shipped out.

Sedin says that Kesler is the problem, Kesler gets shipped out.

Gosh I wonder how that's going to make the team better.

You are mentally unbalanced....You just made up that fake story...there has been NO evidence of ANYTHING you

said ...you are a pathetic excuse for a troll...but a troll you are non the less...and a lying one at that...with no

redeeming qualities and a complete waste of perfectly good air....perhaps you can make up another fantasy to

make your "tiny" life seem better...(its not ! you are still a loser)

I'm just curious why everyone seems to think that all hockey players just want to win a Cup? While that is the ultimate end goal, most players barely get a sniff at even playing in a SC Final. It would seem more logical that most players are happy with making millions of dollars and affording themselves and their family an above average life. Winning the Stanley Cup is just the cherry on top.

You don't understand how competitive you have to be to become a professional athlete. it is in their genes to want to win the Cup. If it is not, they are not in the NHL. This is not a job to provide for your family. Chara would glady maim the Sedins to won the Cup. Look what Keith did to Backes. Players lie about concussions to play in the play offs knowing it means a nasty old age.

The Sedins are great players. Their significant contribution to BC's Children Hospital is proof of their generosity. I hope they have bounce-back seasons and I hope Daniel recovers his game.

I hope too that they get younger this year and get back to their game in their prime.

Where's the evidence to any of that?

My gut feeling has always been that the twins will hoist the cup one day but when they are our third liners. Basically, I think they (or heaven forbid, one of them) will play late in to their 30s. IMO they are going to resign after 4 years for 1m per year. Expect the cup in about 4~5 years!

Unless their contracts are bought out, they will make the same regardless playing for the canucks or any other teams, so if they don't want to stay on a sinking ship, all they need to do is march up to JB's office and demand a trade, just like kesler.

Already used both buyouts on Ballard and Booth.

The Sedins probably still have 6-10 years left in them. They most likely won't finish their careers on the top line, but I believe that's more than enough time to finish off what people are calling a "rebuild" and be a contender again. Hopefully they can still be a key part of our offence when that time rolls around. They aren't going anywhere.

Great post, but this is basically the difference between a job and a career.

People with jobs would love to make a lot of money and afford a great life for their family. Fantastic dream and ambition to have.

But those with careers have a burning desire to be the very best at what they do.

So any criticism the Sedins take for not wanting the Cup bad enough is that they see them as just in it for the job. The money. To provide a great life for their family. Nothing wrong with that at all.

It's just a different level of respect given to those who have that need to bring a Cup home to say they've made it.

I'd say the Sedins have the desire to be the best at what they do. Their off-season work ethic is evident of that. They're two of the eldest on the team yet they both scored in the top three in fitness testing last camp. It's not just a job to them. They stay because they love the city and have a sense of loyalty to both the city and the team that drafted them.

Asking to be traded or chasing contenders through free agency doesn't guarantee a cup. Although your odds may improve, they are still against you. Some players chase the cup, some chase the payday, while others have a high sense of loyalty. I have more respect for the latter.

I just hope the Sedins can win a cup in their last few seasons in the NHL. They're 33 now and JB is projecting this team to contend in 3-5 seasons time. I expect Kassian, Jensen, Horvat and Shinkaruk to all be hitting their prime by 5 years, when the twins will be 38 and probably in their final years. They're getting injured more frequently now and have taken a lot of physical abuse over their careers so despite them being very fit athletes, I don't see them playing to 40+.

Hopefully a well groomed Eddie Lack, Tanev/Corrado, Virtanen/Jensen/Kassian/Horvat, resurgent Edler and a couple of fast-tracked forwards from the next couple of drafts can make this team a contender in about 3 to 5 years when we have the Sedins playing a 3rd or 4th line role and 2nd PP unit time. Hopefully they'll still be contributing 30-40 points as third liners. In 3 to 5 years time:

Kassian - Bonino (?) - Shinkaruk

Jensen - Horvat - Virtanen

Sedin - Sedin - Matthias

Hansen - Gaunce (?) - ?
