Canuckler87
Before you flame, hear me out. Here's our goaltending duos for the last couple years: 12/13 - Lu and Cory 13/14 - Lu and Lack Now next season: 14/15 - Miller and Lack Not much of a difference in terms of quality in goaltending right? Except when it was Lu and Cory maybe, but there's no way those two number ones were going to co-exist for very long. Now the return for both Lu and Cory is: - Bo Horvat - Shawn Matthias - Jacob Markstrom Basically we got those assets for free while still having a number one and a number two goaltender. Gillis must have foreseen this. It was all part of the big picture plan of GMMG

apollo
LOL it worked out kind off Definitely not for me... I'm still devastated. But getting Miller is healing the wound. That is... If he plays well. I bet he will.
c00kies
You have to remember that Benning's close and long-term relationship to Miller attracted him to Vancouver. I can't say this would have happened with Gillis as GM.
RogerEpic5
We could have gotten more for Cory. Just no. Gillis. Just no.
MJDDawg
No. This. The other way to look at it is that we gave away two of the better goalies in the league for a rookie projected as a third liner, another journeyman third liner and a young goalie who's been struggling to stay in the NHL. EmilyM
Why Gillis is actually a genius... ...is because he got someone to call him a genius.
Airjasper
Last I checked, MG had absolutely nothing to do with us getting Miller other than getting rid of both of our top end goalies. Trading Luongo and Schneider for a draft pick and essentially Matthias is an absolute joke.

canucks155
Slow down. GMMG was DECENT from the 2013 draft to his firing. Decent. And the only reason I say that is because of the 2013 draft. His trades weren't very good as Schneids look like a top 5 goalie in the league and all we got for him was Horvat. Not saying Horvat is bad, but we should've gotten more. At least a 2nd as well. The Luo trade is just garbage. A 3rd liner and a goalie we have to ship out now AND u retain his salary. That was an awful deal that we will pay for due to the cap recapture since your boy Gillis signed Luongo for more than a decade. Before then, he was awful. wallstreetamigo
Gillis is a genius for finally getting his sorry ass fired so the team could actually start moving forward again instead of backwards.
EmilyM
The only time I sympathized with Mike Gillis was when I first got my PS4. I couldn't find the reset button and I, for a brief moment, understood how Gillis felt.

aliboy
In no way, shape, or form was Gillis a genius.
wallstreetamigo
Signing Miller has nothing to do with Gillis other than Benning fixing his monumental screwups of the Luongo and Schneider situations. Both Gillis and the owners should be blamed for not just buying out Luongo and avoiding the retained salary and future recapture penalties that will hurt this team in the future. Stubbornly hanging onto Luongo too long should have got him fired a year earlier.
