Mackcanuck
Found this Boston Cap Penalty eliminates Savard's LTIR http://www.csnne.com/boston-bruins/bruins-looking-475-million-cap-penalty The salary cap numbers are finally beginning to filter in for the Boston Bruins for next season, and they are not very good at all. The excellent, accurate web site www.capgeek.com has the Bruins pegged for a $4.75 bonus overage penalty for the 2014-15 season, and that essentially means it’s dead money that Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli can’t utilize for this upcoming season’s team. A group of B’s players contributed to the overage penalty by reaching contractual bonuses last season, according to cap geek. Jarome Iginla accounted for $3.75 million when he hit a huge bonus for 10 games played last season, Torey Krug hit $850,000 in bonuses in a standout rookie season, Dougie Hamilton accounted for 212, 500 in bonuses in the second year of his entry level contract and even Ryan Spooner landed $21, 250 in bonus money. The Bruins do have slightly more than $4 million in cap space coming to them when they place Marc Savard on long term injured reserve at the start of the season, but the $4.75 million penalty effectively cancels that out. ItsMillerTime
Cap hit is still $4.0M plus change for Savard, regardless of what he's paid...but they'll get relief so Bruins will have about $4.5M to sign Krug, Smith, and Fraser, three guys who should be Bruins roster players this coming season. That's probably more than enough for those three players, so I think the dream of watching Bruins have a fire sale for buys like Eriksson, Boychuk, McQuaid, Kelly is all but over. Too bad for the Canucks...would have loved to have seen Boychuk and Khokhlachev moved over here. http://www.capgeek.com/player/
ItsMillerTime
This makes no sense. I meant 5 mill. Also his contract switches to different money every year.
bigbadcanucks
http://www.capgeek.com/player/212 Like I said, cap hit remains at $4.0M plus change. It was a front loaded contract. Do you need an explanation on what that means?

Those bonus overages are going to seriously knee-cap the Bruins this year.
Trebreh
Boston is still paying Savard?? damyumm I thought he retired years ago lol... how long was his contract? Anyhoo ive said it all summer, TRADE FOR ERIKSSON!! our top 6 would resemble that of a cup contender if we get him.

2009cupchamps
As long as they have a few young guys that are waiver except that they can unofficially send to the AHL to make up the difference of Savard contract 4 mil, as long as their starting roster is not less than 20 players. They submit the roster it gets approved put Savard on LTID then call up the players from the AHL (who are actually across the hall). Presto, you are cap compliant. CanuckofSteel
Well Savard LTIR gives them 4 million extra I think, so I think you guys are wrong. Maybe someone can confirm either way. Even with the Savard LTIR they would still have the bonuses that are handicapping them against the cap. Essentially, won't Savard's cap relief and the bonus overage just cancel each other out? Which would just result in them having the same amount of cap space they have now, wouldn't it?

They are being penalized roughly $4 Mill, and they have Savard's cap relief equalling roughly the same.

D-Money
What most of you are not considering is how much Smith and Krug are going to cost them. With the seasons they just had, I'd expect it will take at least 6.5 mil combined to sign them both, likely more. They absolutely need to shed a couple contracts to make room for those two. Eriksson and Kelly is my guess.
Plum
Even after Smith and Krug they still have 3 roster spots to fill, being over the cap by roughly 5 million.

DownUndaCanuck
They're screwed, just like Chicago, for handing out so many NTCs and long term contracts. Reilly Smith and even Caron would command quite a bit, and of course Krug deserves the big bucks but will probably only get a bridge contract to see if he's not a one-hit-wonder. Not sure why they bothered signing Bartkowski if they could have saved that money and spent it on Krug. They'll be in even more strife next season when Krejci's contract expires (doubt they'd let him go), Soderberg's expires (he'll command a huge raise if he has another big year) and Hamilton's expires (likewise). They had a lot of good rookie performances, so if these rookies play the same way or better than last season, guys like Soderberg, Hamilton and Krug will be commanding HUGE contracts that the Bruins simply cannot afford unless they get rid of their current core that are locked in long term with NTCs. Simply put, Marchand, Eriksson or one of their many defencemen have to go. I wouldn't mind taking a stab at Krug. Hamilton looks like he's being groomed into their replacement for Chara but if they can't keep Krug (too many of the same type of defencemen), we should make a play for him with the Benning connection. Give them a cheap affordable defenceman like Stanton or Sbisa plus one of our many forward prospects like Gaunce or Jensen. Would Gaunce, Sbisa and a 2nd be worth Krug? Mackcanuck
"With Bartkowski signed to his one year deal, the Bruins now have roughly $4.6 million in cap space –including the $4 million plus LTI exception for Marc Savard -- to sign restricted free agents Reilly Smith and Torey Krug along with another three forward spots on the NHL roster. Chiarelli said the restricted free agent signings, any potential trades and other roster moves will come with time prior to the start of training camp in September" http://www.csnne.com/blog/bruins-talk/report-bruins-re-sign-bartkowski-1-year-125m-deal

Anyhoo ive said it all summer, TRADE FOR ERIKSSON!! our top 6 would resemble that of a cup contender if we get him. And I've said it all summer, he's far too soft for this team. The very fact Boston had to trade for him to see that, was not good. They will now try to offload him, preferably not to us. "Krug - Tanev Edler - Hamhuis Stanton - Bieksa" DUC.in what parallel universe do these 2 physical pigmies play on the first line against LA, Anaheim and San Jose? Are you trying to get Miller killed? "Bull" Horvat
How is it even possible for the Canucks to fit Eriksson like everyone wants?
D-Money
How is it even possible for the Canucks to fit Eriksson like everyone wants? We have 1.4 mil cap space now. One of our Swedish netminders will be gone prior to the start of the season - probably Markstrom - so that's another 1.2. Corrado will start in Utica, so that's 600K So in total, we have 3.2 to play with. Eriksson make 4.25, so if we sent Higgins back in the deal (quality 3rd liner to fill his space), that leaves us with 1.45 in wiggle-room. In fact, Boston lost Chad Johnson to free agency, and their 3rd stringer Svedberg didn't look very good in the AHL last year. They could use a quality back-up. Matthias and Markstrom for Eriksson would be pretty fair value (considering Loui's poor year, and Boston dealing from a position of weakness. That would allow Boston to shed 1.3 of cap while at the same time filling a roster spot and addressing an organizational weakness (goaltending depth). It also wouldn't require us to make another NTC waived, and leaves us 1.9 of cap room.
