Under a new coach and playing a more uptempo skill game vs that dump and chase, grind game..As well, our D corps will bounce back, with a little more balance, new voice in the room, and a style of game more suited to the abilities of the blueline (ie. we're not a big, physical/grinding blue line, we're a good first pass, transition/join the rush type blue line).. Vey will surprise fans. This kid is good and plays a complete game, closer to the mould of Brendan Morrison type player with more sandpaper in his game (too bad he isn't bigger), but he'll impress. He may start the season on the 3rd line playing somewhat sheltered minutes, but he'll be our 2nd line center before seasons up and Bonino will slot into 3C where he is a better fit. Anyone who thinks Matthias is a 4th liner is kidding themselves. This guy has size, wheels, and some finish.....Also, he's extremely motivated to prove he's better than a bottom line guy. I think he's another guy fans will be surprised by how well this guy plays out of the gates. He has something to prove and this is a team where nothing is set in stone, so he's got a great opportunity. I can't believe he wouldn't recognize that. As much as I'd like to see the likes of Jensen and Horvat/Gaunce crack the lineup this season, I think realistically they all need at least 1 more season (in some cases a few more seasons) in their respective leagues. I, like many fans, want to see youth in this roster, but also realize it is more likely to stall development to rush these kids. I'd rather they "over ripen" in Utica. The goal should be to create organizational depth at a high level, to be a consistent threat at the Cup. Not a one off or have a short window...IMO it'd be great for development (especially all the guys going to Utica: Corrado, Sanguinetti, Fox, Gaunce, Jensen, Shinkaruk) to have a season or three forming some chemistry together and learning to win at that level... I still see a trade scenario happening where, Markstrom + Hansen are moved for prospect/pick. This will be to free up a roster spot for Lain, who I think will crack the lineup on the 4th line. He's big (6'6 - 220) and by all accounts has picked up a step in his skating. Also, VERY good in the face off circle, in case Richardson gets waived out.
