Kesler already working hard for the Ducks!

Recommended Posts

If they felt Kesler was the same player as Bonino why did they trade for Kesler?

Better than bonino, but they lost Perreault for nothing who is a 50 point player. And they added a useless Heatley.

Kesler > Bonino = Perreault > Heatley.

They will make the playoffs but IMO they haven't improved from last year.

Kesler + Heatley = Bonino + Perreault

They lost Selanne and Koivu as well.

Bonino + Koivu>>>Kesler

Selanne>>>Heatley

It's pretty much a wash IMO, but the Ducks didn't need to get that much better. They're already a top team in the West.

Forgot about those two guys. In that case they definitely got worse. They must really be expecting big things out of Smith-Pelly and Etem

Really underestimating Kesler. He wasn't brought in just to produce. Let's be real - the Ducks got a lot better with Kesler.

Koivu at his age is nowhere near what Kesler can bring and Bonino will never be as good defensively as Kesler. They lost Selanne but they still have Maroon, Silfverberg, Palmieri, Smith-Pelley, Rackell and Etem. Also, they added Nate Thompson who gives them really good depth down the middle (Getzlaf - Kesler - Cogliano - Thompson is as good as any in this league).

Looking at the talent Anaheim has on wing, scoring is clearly not the issue for them. What they needed was someone who can defend - someone they can throw out against the other team's top lines to shut them down so they can free up Getzlaf. That's Kesler - and he's proven that he can shut opponents down while producing decent secondary scoring.

It's not even close to a wash because you can't compare top-notch quality (Kesler) with mere quantity (Koivu + Bonino). As you say, they were already a top team in the West, but when you're that good, even the tiniest improvement could be the difference between being a top team in the West (ANA) and the SC champions (LA). If Kesler remains healthy, ANA has a much better chance than this year and could probably go all the way.
