Edler will score 60 and be a Norris finalist so we don't have to worry about that.

Edler and probably Hamhuis will man the points most often.  Remember that debacle last season where the Sedins set Hammer up like 3 wide-open shots in a row on a pp and he wiffed on them all?  Wowzers.  Not Hammer's strength.  But he's our best guy now and one of our best ever.  Reeeespect.

Umm, the rest of the defence.

It's not that big of an issue. Our defence will naturally get points if our forwards can get it done.

If we can trim 33 points off our goals against from 223 to say 190 that would help too.

Edler is going to get a lot of points this season.

And Weber will rack up points if he gets played for a whole season.  I like his game of getting the puck ON the net.  He is good at it.

Stanton is the sleeper.  He raked in points at times last season.

As nice as Garrison's offensive numbers were, he seemed to be pretty streaky and I won't miss how lost he looked in his own end at times last season.

I'm not too worried about replacing his numbers though. We have guys who should just be starting to come into their own this season like Sbisa, Stanton, and Tanev (to a lesser degree, but he was just starting to show glimpses of an offensive game this season).

Then there's a bit of a wild-card in Weber. He looked pretty good on the powerplay during chunks of last year. I think Corrado spends another season in Utica, but I wouldn't be surprised if he put up 10+ points with the Canucks over a full season if he managed to stick around.

Then we just have to hope that Edler, Hamhuis, and Bieksa can up their production from last year. They're all capable, and now is the time to prove it.

Hmm, in before someone mentions that the Canucks should re-acquire a certain German-born d-man who left here as a UFA in order to pursue his dream of winning the Cup.

Hamhuis and Edler really need to step up. Especially our "so" called franchise defenseman in Edler.  I believe Edler can rebound from last season. Torts style didn't fit him, so let's see if Willie D's style works. Otherwise..  :bigblush: go bye bye.

Yup. And since when has that stopped some folks from suggesting that the Canucks should pick up a certain player?  Or suggest that not signing him was a missed opportunity? :)

Garrison had a pretty good offensive season last year, for sure. 33 points from a D-man is respectable and where those points will come from is a very good question. I'd say replacing those points won't be as difficult as it first appears though. By all accounts Edler had an "off" year last season. Really low PDO, one of the worst shooting percentages of his career. To top those stats off, he was also used on a regular-season career-low of the Canucks PP time. I know advanced stats aren't everything, but in this particular instance it's easy to assume that Edler is due for a "return to form" as last season was most likely a statistical anomaly in many categories for him. And realistically, Garrison's -3.3% relative corsi for leads me to believe that whoever replaces his 5v5 minutes will be at least able to keep pace with his even strenth points totals.

Hamhuis- probably won't increase his offensive output by much but hopefully he'll play a bit better than he did last season

Edler- I would like nothing more than for Edler to come close to his potential

Bieksa- he's going to begin his decline where injuries will come and many areas of his game will be on a decline

Sbisa- isn't a guy who will put up a lot of points but can put up at least half of what Garrison put up last season

Tanev- I could see him putting up 20+ points this season. His offensive game is underrated

Stanton- real sleeper pick here

I think a bit from everybody will cover those points. Hard to play worse than they did last season

Edler going from 22 to ~40 points will make up 18 of the difference.  I see Hammer with around 30 points, Sbisa at 15-20 (assuming 3 pairing + 2nd unit PP), and Chris Tanev adding around 5 points on last season.  So that makes up what 46-51 points? Not just replacing Garrison, but improving offense from the D.

Seven goals doesn't seem that hard to replace. A third of his assists were second assists and I imagine quite a few first assists came from guys tipping in pucks in front of the net. You could argue that his shot from the point is what is creating these goals, but given Garrison's trouble getting pucks on net in the first place,  I don't think that's the case.

He was a good enough player but the task of making up lost points doesn't seem to me to be that monumental when considering how those points were earned.

OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

Hamhuis has been with the Canucks 4 years and he's only cracked 24 points once (in the '11-12 season). I don't know where people are getting his 30+ pts for hammer. He's great defensively but let's just say he's offensively-challenged. I think if Edler has a bounce back year however that would cover most of Garrison's points.

I was going to say, "the other guys," but that works too.
