OIC Condemns Murder of American Journalist …Backs International Efforts to confront IS

http://www.oic-oci.org/oicv2/topic/?t_id=9295&t_ref=3714&lan=en

As far as I know, this is the first statement I've seen from the OIC on this matter. Uniti today it seemed like they were more concerned with the Gaza/Isreal conflict. It may be a good sign.

I hope they have some clout. Would be nice to see a referendum on Muslim savagery.

And this is bad?

To an extent yes it is bad. If all anyone does is talk and talk and point fingers without action why the hell would the "bad" people change what they are doing? Perhaps you would like someone else to do the dirty work while you sit on the sidelines pointing fingers?

Should Canada be unilaterally sending troops into Iraq though?

As part of a UN force maybe.

Up for debate. But barking won't stop nobody, that's for sure.

Since when does words of condemnation mean it's our job to police other parts of the world?

It would be acceptable to call this pointing fingers if this were our fault the ISIS is rampaging around Iraq and Syria.

Agreed.. stay the frack out! Last thing we need is these lunatics specifically targeting us. As of right now they only really hate the US and some Europe countries, Canada is at the lower end of being targeted.

If the UN General Assembly or UN Security Council agrees to it, then as a member, Canada should lend it's support.

What Harper is doing is lending support to a Multi-National Force led by the US, before getting the support of the UN just like the Iraq war in 2003. Most nations that joined that coalition were doing it for membership to NATO or money from the US. Not only did they not bring peace to the regions, the 2 biggest supporters, the UK and Australia now have the largest number of foreign recruits joining ISIS.

The UN is a farce. Their weight on real issues of war are minimal. They have been a joke for quite some time. I would lend support with or without the UNs input. Our Allies are that for a reason.

Except that Harper is not doing that.

Harper is offering to provide "humanitarian aid" and take in refugees. From the article above:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/isis-atrocities-in-iraq-what-s-canada-s-next-move-1.2744266

Canada's only military deployment so far was announced on Aug. 15: two transport aircraft to move military supplies donated by other countries to Kurdish military forces in northern Iraq, involving 30 Canadian personnel.

No statement by any government official has suggested the Canadian military will do more. Other allies, most notably the Americans, have re-engaged with airstrikes against ISIS.

Where is this suggestion that the Canadian government is planning a military coalition?

All barks no bite...

Exactly, conscript every 18-22 year old in this country and all first generation Canadians who have done nothing but take from this country, let them earn their right to be a Canadian as many of us & our forefathers did in the war of 1812, WW1, WW2, Etc...

All middle easterns need to be wiped out as this is clearly something that everyone is afraid to call it... A holy crusade in the name of Islam. Or a holy war

You don't have to go to war to earn / prove your a legit Canadian lol.

ISIS will be depleted and either merge with or become another group all in good time without Canadian troops needing to be involved. I do however think if it came to a breaking point where Canadians needed to be more involved to stop such threats from our citizens and those around the World then Canadians would roll up their sleeves and do their part " getting their hands dirty if need be ".

Also in even assisting with air transport in this conflict Canada is quite involved and don't be naïve enough to assume Canada is not yet a targeted country for ISIS.

Do you have any proof or evidence for this to be true? Sure we may be on the hit list, but our name is well below on the preferred list of targets.. What is a terrorist group going to gain from attacking us? If anything it would hurt them more because it would provoke the allies. Last thing ISIS would want is a coalition of countries attacking them as oppose to some right now..

This is nothing but fearmongering being spread by our politicians..

Has an Islamic terrorist bomb ever been blown up on this soil yet? Last time I recall no... thank CSIS for that.

Also ISIS is not a global terrorist group right now.. unlike Al Qaeda and others. They are mostly concentrated in Syria and Iraq. Hence the name...

They don't have the infrastructure to carry out global attacks as they're barely clinging on in Syria and Iraq.

Myth #3: ISIS is part of al-Qaeda

The key thing to understand about ISIS and al-Qaeda is that they are competitors, not allies, and certainly not part of the same larger group.

ISIS used to be al-Qaeda in Iraq. But the group split apart from al-Qaeda in February 2014 because it wouldn't listen to al-Qaeda HQ's commands, including orders to curtail its violence against civilians. (That's right: it was too violent for al-Qaeda.) This ISIS-AQ divorce is a key reason why ISIS is so unremittingly violent, yet many people still lump the two groups together.

For years, al-Qaeda was the clear leader of the global jihadist movement. The loose network of militant groups, internet forums, and "lone wolf" individuals saw al-Qaeda as the gold standard — and many pledged allegiance to it or established some kind of junior-partner working relationship.
